Highfield Range Comparison

Classic, Ultralite or Roll-Up - every Highfield range built to a different brief. Compare tube diameter, capacity, dimensions and engine limits side by side to see which one suits the way you'll actually use it.

Highfield builds three distinct types of boat, and it's worth knowing what separates them before you start comparing individual models. The Classic range is the rigid-hulled workhorse - aluminium hull, larger tubes, built for a full day on the water with people and gear aboard. Ultralite keeps the same rigid aluminium construction but trims weight wherever it can, so it's easier to tow, lift and store, at the cost of a little load capacity. The Roll-Up is a different animal altogether: an inflatable-floor tender that packs down into a bag, built for getting from yacht to shore rather than for cutting about all day.

The tables below list full specification for every model we stock in each range. Tap or scroll sideways on a table to see the rest of the models, and use the jump links above to skip straight to a range.

Design Category C - rated for inshore/coastal waters (winds up to force 6, waves up to 2m), per the RCD/ISO small craft categories.

Engine Shaft S - short shaft outboard.

Classic Range

6 models · 2.60m - 3.80m

Highfield's all-rounder. Wider tubes, a deeper deadrise on the larger models and load capacity to match, the Classic range is built for boaters who want one boat that does everything from fishing to family days out on the water.

Ultralite Range

5 models · 2.40m - 3.37m

Built for boaters who'd rather spend less time on the trailer and more time on the water. The Ultralite range shaves weight off the equivalent Classic hull without cutting corners on build quality, making it easier to tow, launch and lift solo.

Roll-Up Range

1 model · 2.50m

The Roll-Up is Highfield's inflatable-floor tender - no rigid aluminium hull, just a boat that deflates and rolls into a bag small enough for a locker or car boot. Built as a practical yacht tender or backup dinghy, not a day boat.

Highfield range FAQs

What's the difference between the Highfield Classic and Ultralite ranges?

Both use a rigid aluminium hull, so the fundamental build is the same. Classic models carry a larger 44cm tube diameter throughout and generally take a bigger load and higher horsepower engine for their length. Ultralite models use a slimmer 38cm tube on the smaller sizes, which cuts weight and makes the boat easier to tow and lift, though load capacity and max HP are a little lower size-for-size.

Which Highfield range is best for a tender or dinghy?

That's what the Roll-Up is built for. It packs down into a bag rather than sitting rigid, so it stores in a locker or car boot far more easily than a Classic or Ultralite. It's not designed for the same open-water use as the rigid-hulled ranges, so if you want a tender that also doubles as a proper day boat, an Ultralite 240 or 260 is worth a look instead.

Do all Highfield ranges use the same tube diameter?

No. Classic models use a 44cm tube across the board. Ultralite starts at 38cm on the 240, 260 and 290, then steps up to 44cm on the larger 310 and 340 to match the added length and load. The Roll-Up doesn't use rigid tubes in the same sense, as it's a fully inflatable design.

What's the maximum engine size across the Highfield range?

The largest Classic models (340, 360 and 380) are rated up to 30hp. Ultralite tops out at 20hp on the 340, and the Roll-Up 250 is rated to 6hp. All engine shafts across the range are short shaft (S).

How do I know which Highfield size suits how I'll use it?

Start with how many people you'll typically have aboard and where you'll launch from. Maximum people and maximum load in the tables above are a good first filter, then check the boat's own weight and package size against what your tow vehicle and storage space can handle. If you're between two sizes, get in touch with the team and we'll talk it through against your boating.

Are Highfield boats suitable for beginners?

Yes. The smaller Ultralite and Roll-Up models in particular are straightforward to handle, light enough to manage without much boating experience, and rated to Design Category C for inshore and coastal use. If you're new to boating, the smaller end of either range is a sensible place to start.
