Not at all! "Mechanical" simply refers to how the binnacle connects to your engines—using traditional stainless steel throttle and shift cables. Many offshore boaters prefer the 704 binnacle because it provides a tactile "click" you can feel when shifting. The CL5 display included in the kit is 100% digital, giving you the best of both worlds: rugged mechanical control and state-of-the-art engine monitoring.
Which twin Yamaha engines will this kit work with?
This kit is the perfect match for Yamaha's Mechanical EFI outboards (Electronic Fuel Injected engines that still use cables). This typically includes twin setups of the F70, F115, F130, F150, F175, and F200 (Mechanical models). It is not compatible with the "Digital Electronic Control" (DEC) engines like the F225 or XTO V8s.

Yes. Because every boat has a different distance from the helm to the transom, throttle and shift cables are not included in the standard kit. Will the CL5 display talk to my Chartplotter?
