Yamaha F250 250HP Outboard Engine

The Yamaha 250HP Outboard Engine is the ultimate choice for those looking to upgrade their experience on the water. The F250 delivers the class-leading performance and sophisticated technology that has made Yamaha the gold standard in marine propulsion.

The latest generation F250 is lighter, smarter, and more capable than ever. With its impressive power-to-weight ratio and the inclusion of cutting-edge features like Digital Electric Steering (DES) and the TotalTilt™ system, this outboard doesn’t just move your boat - it transforms the way you drive it.

Yamaha F250 250HP Outboard Engine Key Features

  • Exceptional 4.2L V6 Power: Featuring plasma-fused, sleeveless cylinders, this advanced engine is significantly lighter and more durable than traditional designs. This technology increases displacement while reducing weight, giving you incredible hole-shot performance and top-end speed.
  • Integrated Digital Electric Steering (DES): Experience the smoothest, most precise control available today. Standard on Steer-by-Wire models, DES provides a clean bilge with no hydraulic hoses or pumps, offering an intuitive "car-like" feel at the helm.
  • Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE): Manoeuvring in tight marinas or docking in a crosswind is now effortless. By diverting exhaust bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate when in reverse, the propeller bites into clean water for outstanding reverse thrust and control.
  • TotalTilt™ Function: Simplifies your life at the slip or the trailer. With a simple double-tap of the trim button, the engine automatically tilts to its full up or down position, complete with an integrated tilt limit to protect your cowling and transom.
  • Digital Electronic Control (DEC): Yamaha’s "drive-by-wire" throttle and shift system ensures shifts are smooth and certain. It is fully compatible with the Helm Master® EX system, including joystick control for the ultimate in low-speed manoeuvrability.
  • Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT): This system optimises the camshaft timing according to engine RPM, boosting low and mid-range torque. The result is better acceleration and improved fuel economy across the entire power band.
  • Superior Charging Capacity: Equipped with a high-output 70-amp alternator, the F250 ensures your modern onboard electronics, navigation suites, and lighting systems stay powered up, even during long days offshore.
  • Sleek New Design: Available in Yamaha’s signature Grey or Pearlescent White, the new cowling design isn't just about aesthetics; it features improved water drainage and engine-mounted propeller indicator lights (when rigged with Helm Master EX).

Available Variants

To help you navigate the Yamaha F250 range, we have broken down these codes into a clear comparison table. These suffixes denote the Steering Type, Shaft Length, and Colour the three most critical factors when choosing the right outboard for your transom.

NCB = Digital Electronic Control (DEC) with Hydraulic/Bolt-on Steering.
NSB = Digital Electronic Control (DEC) with Integrated Digital Electric Steering (DES).
X = 25" Shaft
U = 30" Shaft.
L = Left-hand (Counter-rotating) rotation (for twin/triple setups).
2 = White Pearl finish (No "2" usually denotes Yamaha Grey).

Model Code Steering Type Shaft Length Rotation Colour
NCBX DEC (Mechanical/Hydraulic) 25" (X-Long) Right Hand Yamaha Grey
NCBU DEC (Mechanical/Hydraulic) 30" (U-Long) Right Hand Yamaha Grey
NCBLX DEC (Mechanical/Hydraulic) 25" (X-Long) Left (Counter) Yamaha Grey
NCBLU DEC (Mechanical/Hydraulic) 30" (U-Long) Left (Counter) Yamaha Grey
NSBX Integrated Electric (DES) 25" (X-Long) Right Hand Yamaha Grey
NSBU Integrated Electric (DES) 30" (U-Long) Right Hand Yamaha Grey

Yamaha F250 250HP Outboard Engine FAQs

What makes the 4.2-litre V6 different from the previous 3.3-litre models?
The 4.2-litre V6 is a "big-bore" engine that uses plasma-fused sleeveless cylinders. This space-age technology replaces heavy steel sleeves with a micro-textured coating that is 60% harder than steel. This means a significantly lighter engine, larger displacement for better torque, and improved cooling - all of which translate to better fuel economy and a longer engine life.

What is "Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust" (TERE)?
Traditionally, exhaust bubbles can interfere with a propeller’s "grip" when in reverse. Yamaha’s TERE system redirects these bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate when the engine is in reverse (at low RPMs). This allows the propeller to bite into clean, undisturbed water, giving you significantly more control when backing into a tight marina berth.

Does the F250 support the Helm Master® EX system?
Absolutely. The F250 is fully compatible with Yamaha’s Helm Master® EX system. This is a modular system, meaning you can start with the Digital Electronic Control (DEC) and later add Autopilot or the Full Manoeuvrability Joystick, which allows you to move the boat sideways or rotate on a dime - perfect for single-handed boating.

Is the F250 suitable for a twin-engine setup?
Yes, it is one of the most popular engines for twin installations on larger ribs and offshore cruisers. We supply "Counter-Rotating" (LF) models specifically for this purpose, ensuring your boat tracks straight and handles predictably at high speeds.
