Yamaha F150 150HP Outboard Engine FAQs

What is the F150's performance ?

The engine features a punchy 4-cylinder configuration and smooth acceleration, with integrated steer-by-wire options for precise handling. The 2:1 gear ratio effectively converts engine torque to thrust.

How do I ensure it fits my boat?

You must match the engine's shaft length to your boat's transom height to prevent issues like ventilation or cavitation. The F150 comes in various shaft lengths, including L (20") and X (25") , if you are unsure of your fitting please give us a call, we will be happy to help.

      What about controls?

The F150 is available with both mechanical and digital electronic control (DEC) options, including the Helm Master EX system. Ensure the chosen control system is compatible with your boat's existing setup, or budget for new, compatible rigging components.

      What fuel does it use?

Yamaha recommends 87-octane fuel for the F150. Never use fuels with a higher percentage of ethanol, such as E15 or E85, as this can damage the outboard.

      How reliable is the F150?

The F150 has an excellent reputation for reliability and longevity, often lasting between 1,500 and 3,500 hours before a major overhaul is needed, with some well-maintained commercial examples exceeding 8,000 hours.

When should I change the Oil ?

Change the engine and lower unit oils every 100 hours or annually.

When should I be Flush the engine ?

Flush the engine with fresh water after every use, especially in saltwater, using "ear muffs" or the integral flush adapter (at idle only) to prevent corrosion.

When should I have my engine Inspected ?

Schedule annual inspections with us here at Morgan Marine and perform regular checks of spark plugs, fuel filters, and sacrificial anodes.
