Ultra Ultraline Dyneema
Ultra Ultraline Dyneema are a space-saving stern anchoring or mooring solution featuring a flat-braid Dyneema line with a 3,200kg breaking load, equivalent to 6mm anchor chain. Key features include silent operation, a durable 316L stainless steel reel housing, smart maintenance features, versatile mounting options, a multi-functional handle, and availability in 40m, 60m, 80m, and 100m lengths.
Ultra Ultraline Dyneema Key Features
- Exceptional Breaking Load: Don't let its size fool you; the 22mm flat braid Dyneema line boasts a massive 3,200kg breaking load, which is equivalent to a 6mm anchor chain.
- Space-Saving 316L Stainless Steel Reel: The housing is crafted from highly polished 316L marine-grade stainless steel. It remains stationary while the internal hub rotates, ensuring the line never interferes with nearby equipment.
- Floating & UV Resistant Line: The Dyneema line naturally floats, keeping it away from your props, and features excellent UV resistance to withstand the harshest marine environments without degrading.
- Silent Operation: Unlike older flat-rope designs, the Ultraline Dyneema is shaped to significantly reduce wind vibration and noise, giving you a peaceful night at anchor.
- Smart Maintenance Features: Integrated Teflon rollers and stainless steel guides automatically squeeze out excess water as you retrieve the line, while wide hole guides in the reel ensure any remaining moisture dries quickly.
- Multi-Functional Winch Handle: Included in the kit is a clever stainless steel handle that fits any standard winch socket. It doubles as a shackle buster, a tool for three different types of deck fillers, and even features a built-in bottle opener.
- Clear Deployment Indicators: An engraved scale on the reel allows you to instantly see the approximate length of line you have deployed at any time.
- Versatile Mounting Kits: Every unit comes with a universal centre mount and a 3-point surround attachment kit, allowing you to fit it to bulkheads, rails, or even inside lockers.
Ultra Ultraline Dyneema FAQs
What exactly is the Ultra Ultraline Dyneema system?
It is a clever, compact flat-rope storage system designed primarily for stern anchoring, towing, or long-distance mooring. It features a high-strength Dyneema® flat line housed in a beautiful, hand-polished 316L stainless steel reel. It’s designed to replace bulky traditional ropes or 6mm chain, saving you a massive amount of locker space.
Why choose the Dyneema version over the standard Polyester?
While both are fantastic, the Dyneema (ULD series) is the ultimate choice for performance. Dyneema is famously light—so light that it actually floats. This makes it much safer for mooring as it stays away from your props. It also offers a higher breaking strain for its size (3,200kg) and has incredible UV and abrasion resistance.
Can I use the Ultraline reel to take the full load of the boat?
No, and this is very important: the reel itself is a storage and deployment device, not a load-bearing winch. Once you have deployed the required amount of line, you must cleat the flat rope off to a standard deck cleat before it takes any strain.
How do I mount it to my boat?
We make it easy for you. Every Ultraline Reel comes with two mounting kits as standard:
-
- A Universal Centre Mount for flat surfaces like bulkheads or inside a hatch.
- A 3-Point Surround Mounting Kit for attaching directly to your rails, pulpit, or pushpit. It’s designed to be versatile enough to fit almost any vessel.
What is the "multi-functional winch handle" used for?
The reel comes with a 316L stainless steel handle that fits into a standard winch socket on the side of the reel for easy retrieval. However, it’s a bit of a "Swiss Army knife" for boaties—it also includes keys for opening deck fittings and even a shackle buster!
How does the line dry if it’s wound up tight?
The reel housing is designed with "Hole Guides." These aren't just for show; they allow airflow through the reel. Additionally, the twin Teflon rollers at the entrance squeeze excess water off the line as you wind it in, ensuring it goes back into the housing as dry as possible.
Is it difficult to keep the flat rope from tangling?
Not at all. Because it’s a flat tape rather than a round rope, it resists twisting and hockling. The built-in rollers and guide system ensure the line layers itself neatly onto the spool every time you wind it in.
What lengths are available?
We typically stock the system in lengths of 40m, 60m, 80m, and 100m. If you aren't sure which length suits your cruising grounds, just give us a ring at the chandlery and we can advise.
Will it stop uninvited guests?
Believe it or not, yes! One of the unique benefits of the flat-line construction is that rats and other "uninvited visitors" find it impossible to walk along the line to get on your boat—something they can easily do with traditional round mooring warps.
How do I know how much line I have left?
The spool features a handy scale indicator. As you pay out the line, you can see at a glance roughly how many metres are still on the reel, so you’re never caught short.
