Suzuki 80 HP Outboard Engine Key Features

Balanced Power for Every Trip

Offering a smooth blend of torque, acceleration and fuel economy, the DF80A is ideal for cruising, fishing, or commercial work. Its large reduction gear ratio delivers excellent low-end power and quick throttle response - without compromising high-speed performance.

Available Models

  • DF80 ATL – Long shaft (508mm), electric start, remote steer (includes side mount control box), and power tilt. Pearl Nebular Black. Weight: 156kg.

  • DF80 ATX – Extra Long shaft (635mm), electric start, remote steer (includes side mount control box), and power tilt. Pearl Nebular Black. Weight: 160kg.

Offset Drive Shaft

By shifting the engine’s centre of gravity forward, Suzuki’s offset drive shaft design improves overall balance and makes the engine more compact. The result? Reduced vibration, better handling, and a more enjoyable time on the water.

Zero-Hassle Timing Chain

The self-adjusting timing chain runs in an oil bath for maximum longevity and minimal maintenance. It never needs lubricating and automatically maintains the correct tension - giving you one less thing to think about between services.

Class-Leading Fuel Efficiency

With Suzuki’s Lean Burn technology, the DF80A is remarkably efficient. It monitors engine performance in real-time and adjusts the fuel/air mix for optimum economy - ideal for anyone looking to save fuel on longer journeys or everyday boating.

Suzuki 80 HP Outboard Engine FAQs

  • What type of engine is the Suzuki 80 HP? It is a 4-stroke, DOHC (Double Overhead Cam), 16-valve, in-line 4-cylinder engine with a piston displacement of 1502cc.
  • Does the engine come with oil pre-filled? No, the four-stroke engine oil is not pre-filled; you must add the recommended oil before the first use. The lower unit (gear) oil is pre-filled from the factory.
  • What is the recommended engine oil? Suzuki recommends
MOTUL Outboard Tech 4T 10W40 Technosynthese® or any 4-stroke motor oil with an NMMA FC-W or API classification of SG, SH, SJ, SL, or SM, with a viscosity rating of SAE 10W-40.
  • How much does the engine weigh? The long shaft version (DF80ATL) weighs approximately 156 kg (344 lbs).
  • What is the "Lean Burn Control System"? This system predicts fuel needs based on operating conditions and delivers an optimal, leaner air-fuel mixture, significantly improving fuel economy during low speed to cruising ranges.
  • How often should I service my outboard motor? Suzuki recommends servicing your outboard every 100 hours of operation or once a year, whichever comes first. The initial break-in service is recommended after the first 20 hours.
  • Can I perform maintenance myself or do I need a dealer? While some DIY maintenance is possible, Suzuki highly recommends using an Authorized Suzuki Dealer for servicing, as they have the specialized diagnostic tools (SDS software), training, and genuine parts to keep your engine in optimal shape and maintain your warranty.
  • How do I check the engine oil level? Place the outboard motor upright on a level surface, remove the motor cover, remove and wipe the dipstick clean, then reinsert it fully. The oil level should be between the "Max" and "Min" marks on the dipstick.
