Suzuki 300 HP Outboard Engine

Suzuki 300 HP Outboard Engine are the world’s first 300hp four-stroke outboard to feature contra-rotating dual propellers. As an authorised Suzuki dealer, we know that when it comes to powering larger, heavier vessels, you need more than just raw horsepower; you need "grip." The DF300B delivers exactly that, combining massive torque with the refined, fuel-efficient performance that has made Suzuki the leader in V6 outboard technology.

Whether you are looking to repower a commercial craft or upgrade your offshore leisure boat, the DF300B offers a level of stability and acceleration that single-propeller engines simply cannot match

Suzuki 300 HP Outboard Engine Key Features

The Suzuki DF300B is engineered for those who refuse to compromise. Built on a robust 4.4-litre V6 powerhead, this engine is designed to deliver high-end performance while running on regular 91 RON unleaded petrol. The standout feature is the Suzuki Dual Prop System, which uses two propellers rotating in opposite directions. This eliminates "torque steer," provides incredible reverse thrust, and ensures your boat tracks straight and true, even in challenging coastal waters.

With Suzuki’s Precision Control (Drive-by-Wire), every shift is silky smooth and every throttle adjustment is instantaneous. Combined with the Lean Burn Control System, you’ll enjoy a significantly longer range between refills, making those long days out on the water more economical and environmentally responsible.

  • Contra-Rotating Dual Propeller System: By distributing engine torque over six blades rather than three, you get unparalleled "grip" on the water. This results in faster hole shots, better stability, and superior manoeuvrability in tight marinas.
  • Suzuki Lean Burn Control: Our flagship fuel-management technology constantly monitors engine sensors to deliver the leanest possible fuel-to-air ratio. You’ll see a dramatic improvement in fuel economy, particularly at cruising speeds.
  • Precision Control (Drive-by-Wire): Forget stiff cables. This electronic throttle and shift system provides crisp, immediate, and effortless control, which is especially noticeable during low-speed docking.
  • Dual Louver Air Intake: A sophisticated "dog-leg" louver system ensures the engine breathes only cool, dry air. It effectively strips moisture and spray from the intake, protecting your internal components and maximising power output.
  • Offset Driveshaft: By positioning the powerhead further forward, Suzuki has moved the centre of gravity over the transom. This reduces vibration and makes the engine more compact and balanced on your boat.
  • 2-Stage Gear Reduction: This allows the engine to turn a larger diameter propeller with high efficiency, providing the low-end torque required to get heavy boats on the plane quickly.
  • Variable Valve Timing (VVT): Automatically adjusts intake valve timing to provide powerful torque in the low-to-mid range and exhilarating speed at the top end.

Technical Specifications:

Engine Type: V6, 24-Valve DOHC

Displacement: 4,390cc

Maximum Output: 300HP (220.7 kW)

Shaft Lengths: Available in Extra Long (25") and Extra Extra Long (30")

Weight: Starting from 330kg

Fuel System: Multi-Point Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection

Warranty: 5-Year Leisure / 2-Year Commercial (UK)

Available Variants:

DF300APX: The "Extra Long" Shaft - The APX is the standard configuration for many large offshore RIBs and modern sports cruisers. Shaft Length: 25 inches (635mm). Best For: Most single-engine installations on vessels where the transom height is standard for offshore use. It's the "go-to" choice for the majority of our customers repowering high-performance hulls. Weight: Approximately 290kg.

DF300APXX: The "Ultra Long" (or Extra Extra Long) Shaft . The APXX variant is designed for vessels with very deep transoms or for specific twin-engine setups where the engine needs to sit lower in the water.  Shaft Length: 30 inches (762mm). Best For: Larger catamarans, deep-V offshore boats, or sailing yachts with high motor mounts. The extra 5 inches of length ensures the propeller remains fully submerged and maintains "grip" even in heavy following seas.  Weight: Approximately 299kg (the extra length in the mid-section adds a small amount of weight)

Suzuki 300 HP Outboard Engine FAQs

What is the difference between the Suzuki DF300AP and the DF300B?

The DF300AP is our flagship single-propeller V6, famous for its "Selective Rotation" technology and lightweight design (approx. 290kg). The DF300B is the "Dual Prop" version. It features a larger 4.4-litre block and contra-rotating propellers. The DF300B is specifically designed for heavier boats that require more "grip" on the water, better reverse thrust, and superior hole-shot acceleration.

Which shaft length do I need for my boat?

The Suzuki 300hp range is available in X (Extra Long - 25 inches) and XX (Extra Extra Long - 30 inches). Most offshore RIBs and modern cruisers require an X shaft, while larger flybridge boats or deep-V hulls may require the XX. Our team at Morgan Marine can measure your transom to ensure the perfect fit.

Can I run these engines on standard UK unleaded petrol?

Yes. Unlike some high-performance outboards that require premium high-octane fuel, both the DF300AP and DF300B are engineered to run on standard 91 RON (E10 or E5) unleaded petrol. This makes them much more practical and cost-effective for UK boaters.

How much fuel will I save with "Lean Burn" technology?

Suzuki’s Lean Burn Control System is a game-changer. It predicts fuel needs based on operating conditions and delivers a leaner fuel-to-air ratio. In real-world cruising conditions, you can expect up to a 14% improvement in fuel economy compared to older non-Lean Burn models.

What are the benefits of the Dual Prop System on the DF300B?

The contra-rotating propellers eliminate "torque steer" (the tendency for the boat to pull to one side). This results in incredible straight-line stability and significantly more "bite" when manoeuvring in tight marinas or when reversing. It essentially gives you the traction of a much larger engine without the extra bulk.

What is "Suzuki Precision Control"?

This is Suzuki’s electronic "drive-by-wire" throttle and shift system. It replaces traditional stiff cables with silky-smooth electronic signals. It makes shifting into gear effortless and provides instantaneous throttle response, which is vital when docking in a breeze or navigating choppy coastal waters.

What is "Selective Rotation" on the DF300AP?

If you are installing twin engines, you traditionally had to buy a specific "counter-rotation" model. With Suzuki Selective Rotation, the DF300AP can be programmed to rotate in either direction using a simple connector and a counter-rotation propeller. This is excellent for resale value, as the engine can fit any boat configuration in the future.

Do I need new gauges and controls?

Yes, these are "drive-by-wire" engines. We recommend the Suzuki Multi-Function Display (SMD) or digital gauges to make the most of the engine's data (fuel flow, engine hours, etc.). At Morgan Marine, we offer complete rigging packages including the latest digital controls.

What is the warranty period for a new Suzuki 300hp?

For leisure users in the UK, you receive a 5-year warranty (3 years standard + 2 years bonus), provided the engine is serviced by an authorised dealer like Morgan Marine. For commercial users, the warranty is 2 years or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first.

How often does the engine need servicing?

The first "break-in" service is required at 20 hours. After that, standard service intervals are every 100 hours or 12 months, whichever occurs first. Keeping up with this schedule is essential for maintaining your 5-year warranty.

Is the engine protected against salt water corrosion?

Absolutely. Suzuki uses a specially formulated Anti-Corrosion Finish. The finish is applied directly to the aluminium alloy, followed by an epoxy primer, metallic finish, and clear sparkled treatment. This multi-layer protection is designed specifically for the harsh conditions of the North Sea and the English Channel.
