Sleipner SE30 12 Volt Tunnel Bow Thruster Kit

Sleipner SE30 12 Volt Tunnel Bow Thruster Kit are the ideal solution for boats between 20 and 28 feet (6m – 8.5m). Despite its compact footprint, it delivers a punchy 30kg to 40kg of thrust, ensuring your bow stays exactly where you want it during tricky manoeuvres.

Built with a focus on longevity and ease of ownership, the SE30 features a sealed gearleg that is lubricated for life, meaning no messy oil changes for you to worry about. Its single 5-blade Q-PROP™ system is engineered for maximum energy efficiency and significantly reduced noise, making those early morning departures much more neighbour-friendly.

Sleipner SE30 12 Volt Tunnel Bow Thruster Kit Key Features

  • Q-PROP™ Quiet Performance: The 5-blade skew propeller reduces noise by up to 75% in controlled environments. You get smooth, powerful thrust without the high-pitched vibration typical of older models.
  • Intelligent Power Control (IPC): Sleipner’s patented IPC technology protects your system from operator error. It provides a built-in delay when switching directions to reduce mechanical wear and automatically stops the thruster if a solenoid should ever lock.
  • Compact 125mm Tunnel: Designed to fit into narrow bows where space is at a premium, without sacrificing the power needed for safe docking.
  • Galvanic Isolation: The gearleg is fully isolated from the motor. This prevents stray currents from causing corrosion, an essential feature for any boat kept in saltwater.
  • Flexible Installation: The motor can be mounted at any angle on the tunnel to avoid hull obstructions, and the motor head can be rotated 90° on its bracket for easy cable routing.
  • Zero-Maintenance Gearleg: Featuring a ceramic/carbon mechanical seal and pre-filled lifetime lubrication, the gearhouse is built for "fit and forget" reliability.
  • Overheat Protection: An internal thermal switch monitors motor temperature and will shut the unit down safely if it gets too hot, protecting your investment.

Sleipner SE30 12 Volt Tunnel Bow Thruster Kit FAQs

Is the SE30 powerful enough for my boat?

The SE30 is designed for boats between 20 and 28 feet (6m – 8.5m). It delivers a nominal thrust of 30kg at 10.5V, but can reach up to 40kg at 12V.

Morgan Marine Tip: We always suggest calculating your needs at 10.5V (the "real-world" voltage during use) rather than the theoretical 12V max, to ensure you have plenty of "grunt" when the wind picks up.

How much space do I need for the installation?

The SE30 is incredibly compact, making it a favourite for narrow bows.

    • Tunnel Diameter: 125mm.
    • Internal Height: Only 263mm.
    • Water Depth: Ideally, the centre of the tunnel should be at least 125mm (one tunnel diameter) below the waterline to prevent the propeller from sucking in air, which reduces thrust and increases noise.

What makes the "Q-PROP™" better than standard propellers?

Sleipner’s 5-blade Q-PROP™ features a "skew-back" design. Unlike traditional 4-blade props that create a loud "thumping" noise as the blades pass the gear house, the Q-PROP™ ensures a blade is always "covering" the gear house. This reduces noise by 20% to 40% in most installations—your neighbours in the marina will thank you!

Can I install this myself?

While many of our customers are capable DIYers, the SE30 involves GRP work (for the tunnel) and high-current electrical wiring. The motor offers Flexible Installation, meaning it can be mounted at any angle on the tunnel and the motor head can be rotated 90° to fit tight spaces. We always recommend professional installation to ensure your warranty remains valid.

What are the battery and fuse requirements?

Because the SE30 pulls a significant current (approx. 180A to 250A during use), your battery health is vital:

Minimum Battery Rating: 200 CCA (DIN) or 380 CCA (SAE).

Fuse: ANL 150A (Included in our full kits).

Does it require much maintenance?

Very little! The SE30 features a Sealed Drive Lubrication system. The gearleg is pre-filled with oil and sealed with a high-grade ceramic/carbon mechanical seal, so there are no oil changes required. You simply need to:

    • Replace the zinc anode annually.
    • Check the propeller for fouling.
    • Keep the battery terminals clean and tight.

What safety features protect the motor?

Sleipner includes their patented Intelligent Power Control (IPC) as standard. This monitors the solenoids and protects the motor from "direction-change" shocks. If you accidentally flick the joystick from port to starboard too quickly, the IPC manages the delay to protect the mechanical parts. It also has a built-in thermal cut-off to prevent overheating during prolonged use.

Is this the same as "Side-Power"?

Yes! Sleipner used the brand name Side-Power for many years. In 2021, they consolidated everything under the Sleipner name. It’s the same world-class Norwegian engineering you’ve trusted for decades.
