Scanstrut PTM-R2-SL Starlink & Furuno Radar Tapered Mast

Scanstrut PTM-R2-SL Starlink & Furuno Radar Tapered Mast is a modern reimagining of Scanstrut’s classic tapered mast, specifically engineered to bring your Starlink Flat High-Performance antenna and Furuno Radar together in one sleek, robust, and professional installation.

Standing at 820mm tall, this mast doesn't just hold your gear; it positions it for peak performance. By elevating your Starlink and Radar, you ensure a clear line of sight and maximum signal reliability, even in the most challenging marine environments.

Constructed from premium marine-grade aluminium and finished with Scanstrut’s legendary 4-step marine paint system, it’s built to withstand the harshest salt spray and UV exposure. For the DIY boater or professional installer, the "easy-access" panels under the wings make cable routing a breeze, ensuring a clean, watertight finish without the need for messy sealants.

Scanstrut PTM-R2-SL Starlink & Furuno Radar Tapered Mast Key Features

  • Dual-Tech Integration: Specifically designed to mount a Furuno Radar dome and the Starlink Flat High-Performance antenna on a single, elegant platform.
  • Built to Last: Manufactured from high-grade marine aluminium and protected by a unique 4-step marine paint system to prevent corrosion.
  • Easy-Access Wiring: Features clever access panels on the underside of each "wing," making cable routing quick, simple, and hidden from view.
  • No Cutting Required: The internal architecture is designed so NMEA connectors fit through the mast and wings easily—no need to cut off factory plugs to complete your install.
  • Watertight Installation: Pre-drilled mounting holes allow your radar to bolt directly to the mast. When used with a Scanstrut DS30 Cable Seal, it creates a 100% waterproof seal without the need for marine sealant.
  • Versatile Mounting: In addition to Starlink and Radar, the mast is suitable for mounting lights, GPS/VHF antennas, and thermal cameras seamlessly together.
  • Space-Saving Footprint: Despite its 820mm height and impressive "wing" span, it maintains a small base footprint, making it ideal for tight spaces on the cabin roof or flybridge.
  • Standard-Tested: Fully tested to rigorous marine standards to ensure stability and durability in heavy seas.

Morgan Marine Expert Tip: To ensure a completely professional, watertight finish, we recommend pairing this mast with the Scanstrut DS30 Cable Seal. If you’re unsure about compatibility with your specific Furuno model, give our team a call at the boatyard and we’ll be happy to help.

Scanstrut PTM-R2-SL Starlink & Furuno Radar Tapered Mast FAQs

What exactly can I mount on this mast?

The PTM-R2-SL is a multi-purpose mounting platform. It is pre-drilled and specifically designed to hold:

    • Radar: Specifically Furuno radar domes.
    • Starlink: The Flat High-Performance model.
    • Additional Gear: The "wings" are designed to accommodate thermal cameras (like the FLIR M100/200 series), GPS/VHF antennas, and navigation lights.

Is it compatible with my Starlink dish?

This mast is designed specifically for the Starlink Flat High-Performance Model. If you are looking to mount the standard "residential" or "roaming" Starlink dish, please get in touch with our team so we can point you toward the correct mounting adapter or alternative mast.

How tall is the mast?

The mast stands at 820.4mm (approximately 32.3 inches) high. This height is ideal for ensuring your radar has a clear line of sight over most cabin-top obstructions while keeping your Starlink and antennas high enough for optimal signal reception.

Will I need to use messy marine sealants during installation?

One of the best features of this Scanstrut model is that no marine sealant is required. The unit is designed for a watertight installation right out of the box. For the radar cables, we recommend using the Scanstrut DS30 Cable Seal (sold separately) to ensure a 100% waterproof seal without the need for silicone.

Do I need to cut my radar cables to fit them through the mast?

Not at all. Scanstrut has designed this mast with ease of installation in mind. The internal cable channels and wings are spacious enough to allow NMEA connectors and factory-fitted radar plugs to pass through without being cut or re-terminated.

How do I access the wiring once it’s installed?

The PTM-R2-SL features convenient access panels on the underside of each wing. This makes initial cable routing much simpler and allows for easy maintenance or the addition of new equipment in the future without having to dismantle the entire mast.

Is it built to withstand the harsh UK marine environment?

Absolutely. The mast is constructed from high-grade marine-aluminium and finished with Scanstrut’s unique 4-step marine paint system. This ensures it is highly resistant to corrosion, UV damage, and the rigours of life on the water.

Are the mounting holes already drilled?

Yes, the top plate is pre-drilled specifically for Furuno radar domes. This means the radar can be fastened straight to the mast using its own mounting bolts, saving you time and ensuring a perfectly centred fit.

What is the weight limit for the antennas on the wings?

While the main body is incredibly robust, the wings have a maximum weight recommendation of 1.5kg per wing for small to medium antennas. This is perfect for standard GPS, VHF, or Navtex attachments.

Why should I choose the PTM-R2-SL over a standard mount?

If you’re looking to declutter your radar arch or cabin roof, this is the "flagship" solution. It combines multiple technologies into one footprint, reducing the number of holes you need to drill in your boat while providing a clean, "factory-fit" aesthetic that actually enhances the look of your vessel.
