Scanstrut PTM-R1-SL Starlink & Radar Tapered Mast

Scanstrut PTM-R1-SL Starlink & Radar Tapered Mast are the ultimate "all-in-one" solution for skippers looking to integrate high-speed Starlink connectivity with their existing radar and navigation setup.

Designed specifically for the Starlink Flat High-Performance model, this mast provides the height and stability required for optimal signal, while keeping your radar, cameras, and GPS antennas perfectly positioned for maximum performance.

This is a modern remake of Scanstrut’s legendary tapered mast, engineered for the latest generation of marine electronics. It’s built from marine-grade aluminium and finished with Scanstrut's premium 4-step marine paint system to ensure it stands up to the harshest salt-spray environments.

What we particularly like at the boatyard is the "Easy Access" design. The underside of each wing features removable panels, making cable routing a breeze. You won’t need to cut plugs or struggle with tight corners; even bulky NMEA connectors fit comfortably inside the mast.

Scanstrut PTM-R1-SL Starlink & Radar Tapered Mast Key Features

  • Integrated Multi-Mount: Effortlessly combines your Starlink Flat High-Performance antenna, radar, thermal cameras, and lights into a single, sleek installation.
  • Plug & Play Installation: Pre-drilled mounting holes allow your radar to bolt directly to the mast using its own hardware.
  • No Messy Sealants: Designed for a 100% watertight fit without the need for marine sealant. Pair it with a Scanstrut DS30 Cable Seal for a professional finish.
  • Easy Wiring: Internal cable channels and underside access panels mean all your wiring is hidden and protected, keeping your boat looking clean.
  • Universal Compatibility: The radar plate is designed to fit the latest 18" and 24" radomes from Raymarine, Garmin, Simrad, and Lowrance.
  • Aerial Ready: Includes four dedicated mounting points for GPS or VHF antennas.
  • Built to Last: Manufactured from high-grade marine aluminium with a durable white gloss finish.

Scanstrut PTM-R1-SL Starlink & Radar Tapered Mast FAQs

What exactly can I mount on the PTM-R1-SL?

This is a true "all-in-one" solution. It is designed to house:

    • Starlink: Specifically the Flat High-Performance model.
    • Radar: Compatible with 18” and 24” radomes from Raymarine, Garmin, Simrad, and Lowrance.
    • Lights: An undrilled top plate fits various navigation lights.
    • Antennas: Up to 4 GPS/VHF antennas can be mounted on the wings.
    • Cameras: Dedicated space for thermal cameras (like the FLIR M100/M200 series) or searchlights.

Will it withstand the British coastal weather?

Absolutely. It is constructed from premium marine-grade aluminium and finished with Scanstrut’s unique 4-step marine paint system. This ensures high resistance to UV rays and corrosion, even in the harshest salt-water environments.

How difficult is the wiring process?

Scanstrut has designed this with the installer in mind. The PTM-R1-SL features easy-access panels on the underside of each "wing." This allows you to route cables and fit NMEA connectors through the hollow stem and wings without having to cut the factory plugs off—saving you time and maintaining your electronics' warranty.

Do I need to buy extra sealant for a watertight fit?

One of the best features of this mast is that it’s designed for a watertight installation without marine sealant. When used with the Scanstrut DS30 Cable Seal (sold separately), you get a perfect seal around the radar cables. The mast itself includes the necessary bungs and grommets for the Starlink cable.

What are the dimensions and footprint?

    • Height: 820mm (approx. 32.3").
    • Footprint: It features a small base footprint, the same as the popular Dual PowerTower, making it easy to fit on crowded cabin tops or flybridges.
    • Wing Span: The wings are removable for easier shipping, but once installed, they provide a stable platform for multiple antennas.

Is it compatible with the Starlink Standard (Gen 2/3) or just the High-Performance model?

The PTM-R1-SL is specifically engineered and pre-drilled for the Starlink Flat High-Performance Model. If you have a different Starlink version, please give us a ring at the shop, and we can advise on the best alternative mounting bracket or adapter.

Can I install my radar directly to the mast?

Yes. The mast comes with pre-drilled mounting holes that allow standard 18” and 24” radomes to fasten straight to the platform using their own mounting bolts. No custom drilling is usually required for the major brands (Raymarine, Garmin, etc.).

How much weight can the wings hold?

Each wing is designed for small to medium antennas with a maximum weight of approximately 1.5kg per wing. This is more than enough for standard GPS, VHF, or Navtex antennas.
