Raymarine Wireless Vertical Wind Transmitter

Raymarine Wireless Vertical Wind Transmitters are not your standard wind vane.

Designed specifically for high-performance racing and discerning cruisers, this transmitter solves the age-old problem of "disturbed air." By elevating the sensors 1.35m (approx. 4.5ft) above the masthead using a lightweight carbon fibre spar, it reaches into the "clean" air, away from the turbulence and upwash caused by your mainsail.

The result? Pinpoint accuracy for True Wind Speed (TWS) and True Wind Angle (TWA) that allows you to make tactical decisions based on reality, not interference.

Raymarine Wireless Vertical Wind Transmitter Key Features

  • Elevated Precision: The 1.35m vertical spar lifts the sensors clear of the masthead's aero-disturbance, significantly reducing errors caused by sail upwash—especially critical when sailing downwind.
  • Carbon Fibre Construction: Built for the rigours of racing, the carbon fibre shaft is incredibly lightweight, ensuring you don’t add unnecessary weight aloft or affect your boat’s centre of gravity.
  • True Wireless Freedom: There are no wires to run down the mast or through the hull. This makes installation remarkably simple, even with the mast already in place.
  • Solar Powered Autonomy: The unit is completely self-sufficient. Integrated solar panels keep the internal battery charged, providing up to 300 hours of autonomy, so you’re never left in the dark during a night passage.
  • Micronet Compatibility: It interfaces seamlessly with Raymarine’s Wireless (formerly Tacktick) range and can be integrated into SeaTalkng networks via an optional MicroTalk Gateway.
  • Easy Calibration: You can calibrate the unit directly through any Micronet-compatible display on your network for instant, accurate readouts.

Raymarine Wireless Vertical Wind Transmitter FAQs

What makes the "Vertical" version different from a standard wind transducer?

The "Vertical" transmitter features a 1.35m (approx. 4ft) carbon fibre wand. By elevating the sensors higher above the masthead, it moves them away from the "upwash" and air turbulence created by your mainsail. This results in significantly cleaner air readings, providing much more accurate True Wind Speed (TWS) and True Wind Angle (TWA)—essential for competitive racing and precision trimming.

How is the unit powered? Do I need to run cables down the mast?

The beauty of this system is that it is entirely solar-powered. It uses integrated lithium batteries that are charged by the sun. Because it transmits data wirelessly via Raymarine’s Micronet technology, there are absolutely no wires to run down your mast or through your deck, saving you weight aloft and hours of tricky installation time.

How long will the battery last if there is no sun?

The T222 is designed for "set and forget" reliability. On a full charge, the unit offers up to 300 hours of autonomy. This means even during extended night passages or through a gloomy British winter, your instruments will continue to receive accurate wind data.

Is it compatible with my existing Raymarine instruments?

The T222 is natively compatible with all Raymarine Wireless (formerly Tacktick) displays. If you are running a wired SeaTalkng or NMEA 2000 system (such as i70s or Axiom displays), you can still use this wireless transmitter by adding the MicroTalk Wireless Gateway (E70361) to your network.

How difficult is the installation?

It’s remarkably straightforward. Because there’s no cabling, you don’t need to drop the mast. The kit includes a masthead mounting plate and required fasteners.

Step 1: Fix the bracket to the masthead.

Step 2: Slot the carbon wand into the bracket.

Step 3: Secure it with the retaining bolt. We always recommend "auto-networking" the unit to your displays at deck level before you (or your rigger) head up the mast!

Can the wand be shortened if it's too tall for my rig?

Yes, if required, the carbon shaft can be shortened by up to 150mm from the bottom. However, this must be done carefully to ensure the shaft remains seated correctly in the masthead foot. If you're unsure, feel free to give us a ring at the shop for advice.

How durable is it against the elements?

The T222 is built for the harsh marine environment. It is constructed from lightweight, high-strength carbon fibre and is sealed for life. The unit is completely waterproof (submersible to 10m), meaning no issues with condensation or salt spray ingress.

What maintenance does it require?

It is virtually maintenance-free. However, we recommend a quick visual check once a season to ensure the anemometer cups and wind vane are spinning freely and haven't been obstructed by salt build-up or unwanted "guests" (birds). The cups and vane are user-replaceable should they ever suffer impact damage.
