Raymarine RVM1600 RealVision Black Box Sonar with 1kW Sonar, DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D Sonar
Raymarine RVM1600 RealVision Black Box Sonar with 1kW Sonar, DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D Sonar is the ultimate upgrade for your Axiom system, designed to push the boundaries of deep-water discovery.
Whether you are hunting for elusive pelagics in the deep or scanning intricate wrecks on the seabed, the RVM1600 delivers unparalleled clarity. By combining the legendary RealVision 3D technology with a high-powered 1kW CHIRP channel, this "black box" module ensures you never miss a target, regardless of the depth or conditions.
The RVM1600 isn’t just an incremental update; it’s a powerhouse. It features RealVision MAX technology, which boasts upgraded signal processing and faster ping rates. For the angler, this means sharper fish targets and more life-like imagery of structure. When paired with RealVision MAX transducers, the high-contrast colour palettes make it incredibly easy to distinguish fish from the surrounding water column and seabed
Raymarine RVM1600 RealVision Black Box Sonar with 1kW Sonar, DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D Sonar Key Features
- Five-Channel Performance: A truly versatile "all-in-one" solution featuring RealVision MAX 3D, SideVision, DownVision, 600W High CHIRP, and a dedicated 1kW Dual-Channel CHIRP.
- Deep Water Dominance: The integrated 1kW CHIRP sonar is built for the deep, capable of tracking the bottom and marking targets in depths that leave standard sonars behind.
- RealVision MAX 3D: Gain a 360-degree perspective of the underwater world. See below, behind, and to the sides of the boat in a fluid 3D environment that makes staying on structure simpler than ever.
- Stabilised Imagery: Includes a built-in Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) that stabilises your 3D sonar imagery by automatically compensating for vessel motion—essential for maintaining a clear picture in choppy UK waters.
- Enhanced Detail: Experience CHIRP DownVision and SideVision for photo-like views of wrecks, reefs, and bait balls with incredible resolution.
- Seamless Integration: Designed as a "plug-and-play" Black Box for the Raymarine Axiom range, connecting via high-speed RayNet (Ethernet) to share sonar data across multiple displays.
- Rugged Construction: Built to withstand the harshest marine environments with an IPX6/IPX7 waterproof rating.

Raymarine RVM1600 RealVision Black Box Sonar with 1kW Sonar, DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D Sonar FAQs
What exactly is the RVM1600, and do I need it for my Axiom display?
The RVM1600 is a "black box" sonar module. It brings Raymarine’s latest RealVision MAX technology to your existing Axiom setup. While some Axiom units have built-in sonar, the RVM1600 is designed for those who want "pro-level" performance—offering more power, faster ping rates, and deeper reach than standard internal modules. If you want to see further and with more clarity (especially in deeper UK coastal waters), this is the upgrade for you.
What is "RealVision MAX" and how does it differ from standard RealVision?
RealVision MAX is the next generation of Raymarine sonar. It uses upgraded signal processing and faster ping rates to provide much higher-contrast imagery. For you, this means fish targets stand out more clearly against the water column, and underwater structures (like wrecks or reefs) appear much more life-like. It also increases the power of the High CHIRP frequency to 600W, giving you better depth performance.
Does this unit support 1kW sonar for deep-water fishing?
Yes, absolutely. The RVM1600 is a dual-purpose powerhouse. It features a dedicated 1kW CHIRP port that supports Airmar broadband transducers. This allows you to hunt for fish in depths of up to 914 metres (3,000 feet), making it ideal for offshore anglers heading to the shelf or deep-water marks.
Which sonar channels are available with the RVM1600?
When paired with the correct transducers, the RVM1600 provides four distinct channels simultaneously:
-
- RealVision 3D: A 360-degree perspective of what’s below, behind, and to the sides.
- DownVision: Photo-like imagery of structure directly beneath the boat.
- SideVision: Ultra-wide scanning to see fish and structure out to the port and starboard.
- High CHIRP: Traditional sonar for spotting fish targets and tracking the bottom at speed.
Is my current Raymarine Axiom display compatible?
The RVM1600 is compatible with the entire Axiom family, including Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, and Axiom XL. To use the RVM1600, your display must be running LightHouse 4.3 or higher. If you aren't sure how to update your software, just give us a ring at the shop and we can talk you through it.
Does it come with a transducer, or do I need to buy one separately?
The RVM1600 is the sonar module only. You will need to select the appropriate transducer(s) for your hull type. For the full "MAX" experience, we recommend the RVM-100 (Transom Mount) or the RVM-400 series (Through-Hull). If you are looking for that 1kW deep-water performance, you’ll also need a compatible Airmar CHIRP transducer.
I have an older RealVision 3D transducer; will it work with this module?
Yes, the RVM1600 is backwards compatible with legacy RealVision 3D transducers. However, to take full advantage of the "MAX" clarity and the increased 600W output, you would eventually want to upgrade to the new RVM-series transducers.
How does the "3D" image stay stable in rough British seas?
One of the best features of the RealVision MAX system is that the transducers (RVM-100/400) have a built-in AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System). This sensor automatically compensates for the vessel's motion—pitch, roll, and heave—so your 3D sonar image stays stable and easy to read even when the water gets a bit choppy.
Is it difficult to install?
The RVM1600 is designed for "plug-and-play" networking. Once mounted in a dry location, it connects to your Axiom display via the included RayNet cable and to your battery via the power cable. The transducers then plug directly into the module. As always, if you're not comfortable with the install, we offer professional fitting services here at Morgan Marine.
