Raymarine RD424 HD Colour Radome FAQs

Which Raymarine displays are compatible with this radome?
The RD424HD is compatible with Raymarine's aSeries, cSeries, eSeries, eS Series, gS Series, C-Series Widescreen, E-Series Widescreen, and G-Series multifunction displays (MFDs). It is not compatible with older C-Series Classic or E-Series Classic displays, which require analog scanners.

Does this radar work with other brands of marine electronics?
No, most marine radar scanners, including this one, are designed to be used with chartplotters from the same manufacturer.

Does it require a special cable?
Yes, it uses a SeaTalk HS (Ethernet) network connection and requires a specific Raymarine digital radar interconnect cable (available in various lengths like 5m, 10m, 15m, etc.), which is often sold separately from the radome unit.

What is the maximum range?
The maximum range for target detection is 48 nautical miles (nm).

Is the radar safe? Does it emit harmful radiation?
All radars transmit electromagnetic energy. For safety, the scanner should be mounted as high as practical (above head height) and out of the range of personnel and passengers to avoid exposure, particularly to the eyes.

Where should I mount the scanner?
Mount it as high as possible for better long-range performance, on a rigid and stable platform, and clear of large obstructions (masts, searchlights, etc.). It should also be at least 1 meter away from a magnetic compass.

Can it be used to monitor the weather?
Yes, Raymarine radars can detect rain squalls and thunderstorms at long distances, allowing you to navigate around harsh weather.
