Raymarine Evolution Hydraulic Pilot with p70Rs control head
Raymarine Evolution Hydraulic Pilot with p70Rs control head are designed specifically for powerboats with hydraulic steering. Unlike traditional autopilots that require a complicated and lengthy "sea trial" to learn the boat's handling characteristics, the Evolution system is ready to go almost immediately.
At its heart is the EV-1 Sensor Core, a 9-axis sensor that monitors vessel motion in three dimensions. This allowing the pilot to evolve and adapt to sea conditions and boat dynamics instantly. Paired with the p70Rs Control Head, featuring a vibrant colour display and a dedicated rotary dial, you have effortless, tactile control over your vessel’s heading.
Raymarine Evolution Hydraulic Pilot with p70Rs control head Key Features
- No Calibration Required: Say goodbye to tedious "circles" and manual calibration. The Evolution AI technology constantly learns and adapts to your boat's steering characteristics, meaning it’s ready to navigate as soon as it’s installed.
- p70Rs Rotary Control: Designed specifically for powerboats, the p70Rs features a rotary dial for quick, precise course changes. It also includes "Power Steer" mode, allowing you to use the knob as a miniature helm—perfect for manoeuvring from a second station.
- Hydro-Balance™ Technology: Exclusive to Raymarine, this feature compensates for any "slack" or elasticity in your hydraulic system. It prevents steering oscillation and "hunting," ensuring a rock-steady course even in following seas.
- Aerospace-Grade Accuracy: The 9-axis EV-1 sensor core uses high-precision monitoring of pitch, roll, yaw, and heading. This level of accuracy doesn't just keep you on course; it saves fuel and gets you to your destination faster by reducing "zig-zagging."
- Rugged & Reliable: Both the p70Rs control head and the EV sensor core are built to withstand the harsh marine environment (IPX6 and IPX7 rated), ensuring longevity even when mounted in exposed locations.
- Seamless Integration: Fully compatible with SeaTalkng and NMEA2000, the system integrates effortlessly with your Raymarine Axiom chartplotter or other networked instruments for full "steer-to-waypoint" functionality.
What’s in the Box?

Morgan Marine Expert Tip: When choosing your pack, ensure your hydraulic ram capacity matches the pump size (e.g., the EV-100 for smaller outboards or the EV-150/200 for larger vessels). If you’re unsure which version is right for your boat, give our team a call—we’re here to help you get the perfect setup.
Raymarine Evolution Hydraulic Pilot with p70Rs control head FAQs
Which version do I need for my boat: EV-100, EV-150, or EV-200?
The main difference between these packs is the size of the hydraulic pump and the capacity of the ACU (Actuator Control Unit).
-
- EV-100 Hydraulic: Designed for smaller powerboats with a hydraulic ram capacity between 50cc and 110cc. Usually perfect for single-outboard boats.
- EV-150/200 Hydraulic: These are for larger vessels. The EV-200, for example, handles rams from 80cc up to 230cc.
Morgan Marine Tip: Check your steering ram (usually found near the engine or rudder) for a cubic centimetre (cc) or cubic inch (cu.in) rating. If you can’t find it, give us a call with your boat model and we’ll help you out.
What makes the p70Rs better for powerboats than the standard p70s?
The 'R' stands for Rotary. While the p70s is button-only (preferred by sailors), the p70Rs features a rotary dial. This allows for much faster course adjustments and enables "Power Steer" mode, where you can use the dial like a miniature helm—fantastic for slow-speed manoeuvres or when you want to steer away from the main wheel.
Does it really require "No Calibration"?
Yes! Gone are the days of spending an hour driving in circles to calibrate the compass. Thanks to the 9-axis EV-1 Sensor Core, the system monitors your boat’s movement in 3D and automatically compensates for magnetic interference. You literally just complete a short Dockside Wizard, and the pilot begins "evolving" and learning your boat's handling as soon as you hit the water.
What is Hydro-Balance™ technology?
This is a Raymarine-exclusive feature specifically for hydraulic systems. It detects and compensates for "system elasticity"—basically the tiny bit of "give" or air bubbles in hydraulic lines. Without it, autopilots can "hunt" (steer back and forth slightly). Hydro-Balance ensures the steering remains rock-solid and precise, even on boats with outboards.
Can I control the autopilot from my Chartplotter?
Absolutely. If you have a Raymarine Axiom or Element display, you can engage, standby, and change course directly from the touchscreen. The p70Rs control head acts as your dedicated physical interface, but the system is fully integrated via the SeaTalkng (NMEA 2000) network.
Is the EV-1 sensor core waterproof? Can it be mounted anywhere?
The EV-1 is rated IPX6 and IPX7, meaning it is fully sealed. You can mount it above or below deck. It doesn't even need to be on the centreline—you can even mount it upside down if needed! Just keep it away from large metal objects or high-current wires to ensure the best magnetic heading.
Does the kit include everything I need for installation?
The pack includes the EV-1 Sensor Core, the ACU, the p70Rs Control Head, the Hydraulic Pump, and an Evolution cabling kit. However, you will need to source the correct hydraulic hoses and fittings to "T" into your existing steering lines, as these vary from boat to boat. We stock a range of hydraulic kits here at Morgan Marine if you need them.
Is it fuel-efficient?
Surprisingly, yes. Because the Evolution AI is so precise at keeping a straight line (it doesn't "snake" like older pilots), you travel a shorter distance to your destination, which saves fuel over long passages.
