Raymarine 12kW Magnum with Open Array and 15m RayNet Radar Cable FAQs
- What is the maximum range of the 12kW Magnum radar? The Raymarine 12kW Magnum has a maximum range scale of 96 nautical miles. The actual target detection range is dependent on the height of the scanner above the waterline and the height of the target.
- Is the Magnum radar compatible with my current display? Magnum radars are compatible with Raymarine's Axiom and Axiom Pro multifunction displays (MFD) running the LightHouse 3 operating system. It is also backwards compatible with legacy models, including all LightHouse 2 MFDs (e.g., cSeries, eSeries, gS Series, etc.).
- Does the system come with the necessary cables? Yes, the system typically includes a 15m radar-to-RayNet and power cable as standard. Other lengths (5m, 10m, and 25m) are available as optional accessories.
- Can the radar detect birds for fishing? Yes, all Magnum radar models feature a specific "Bird Mode" which optimizes the transceiver for detecting sea bird activity, helping anglers find schooling baitfish more efficiently.
- What is the power consumption? The typical power consumption is <110W in transmit mode, <30W in standby, and <1.2W in sleep mode. It operates on 10.8 to 32 volts DC.
- What is the optimal mounting height? Mounting the radar scanner as high as practical enhances long-range performance due to the line-of-sight nature of radar.
- Is the radar radiation harmful? Marine radar transmits electromagnetic energy that can be harmful, particularly to the eyes. Raymarine advises installation above head height and away from personnel.
- Do I need a special license to operate a marine radar? Licensing requirements for marine radar installation and operation vary by national administration.
