Mercury Logo

Mercury V8 V300 outboard motors are built on a massive 4.6-litre displacement powerhead. Featuring a 32-valve, double-overhead-cam (DOHC) design, it generates immense torque - especially in the midrange - to get even the heaviest boats on plane in an instant.

Mercury V8 V300 Outboard Key Features

V8 Torque That Moves You Now

The 4.6L V8 delivers class-leading displacement for rapid acceleration and serious mid-range punch. Transient Spark technology boosts hole-shot torque by up to 7%, so you’re on plane fast the moment you open the throttle.

Smooth. Quiet. Civilised.

The Advanced MidSection (AMS) isolates vibration at its source, while under-cowl noise management keeps the ride impressively quiet. Conversations stay easy - even at speed.

Set It and Run

Adaptive Speed Control automatically holds your chosen RPM through swell, wind and tight turns. No constant throttle correction. Just consistent, confident performance.

Precision at Your Fingertips

Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) delivers instant response and seamless gear changes. Docking, manoeuvring and low-speed handling feel controlled and effortless.

Power for Modern Electronics

With a high-output 115-amp alternator and Idle Charge battery management, the engine automatically increases idle RPM if voltage drops - keeping systems powered without intervention.

Go Further on Every Tank

Advanced Range Optimisation fine-tunes fuel delivery in real time, maximising efficiency at cruising speeds without sacrificing performance.

Simple to Maintain

The exclusive Top Cowl Service Door lets you check and top up oil without removing the cowl. Quick. Clean. Straightforward.

Mercury V8 V300 Outboard Motor FAQs

Is 300HP enough for my boat?
For most boats between 8m – 10m (26 – 33ft), a single 300HP delivers strong, confident performance with plenty in reserve.

  • Ideal for larger offshore RIBs, fast fishers, walkaround and heavier sports cruisers
  • Delivers strong mid-range torque for quick planing
  • Handles full crew and gear without feeling strained

If your hull is rated for 300HP, it allows the boat to perform at its full potential. If it’s rated lower, you should never exceed the manufacturer’s limit.

What top speed will I get?
Exact figures depend on hull design, weight and prop setup, but typical performance looks like this:

8m performance RIB: 55 – 65 knots

8 – 9m offshore hull: 45 – 55 knots

9 – 10m sports cruiser: 40 – 48 knots

Comfortable cruising speed usually sits around 28 – 35 knots, where the engine is working efficiently and quietly.

The V8’s torque means it doesn’t need to be pushed hard to cruise efficiently.

Will the Mercury V8 V300 fit my transom?
The Mercury V8 V300 is available in Long Shaft (508mm), XL (635mm), and XXL (762mm). Always check transom rating and weight capacity.

How much does the Mercury V8 V300 weigh?
Approximate dry weight is 272KG for the lightest model available. For a naturally aspirated 4.6L V8, it’s relatively light in its class.

How noisy is the Mercury V8 V300?
It’s notably quiet for a V8. Smooth, low rumble at idle. Minimal vibration thanks to large displacement running at lower RPM. Quiet cruise compared to many high-revving competitors.

The industry-exclusive Advanced Sound Control feature lets you toggle between a whisper-quiet exhaust tone or a throatier growl at startup and idle, for those times you truly want to hear the horsepower.
