Mariner F9.9 Outboard
Mariner F9.9 Outboard are the definitive choice for your tender, inflatable, or small fishing boat.
Loaded with typical Mariner innovations, this engine is designed to make your time on the water effortless. Whether you’re navigating tight harbour corners or heading out for a day of coastal exploring, the F9.9 delivers smooth, quiet, and incredibly fuel-efficient performance.
Mariner F9.9 Outboard Key Features
- Intuitive Multi-Function Tiller Handle: Take full control with one hand. This ergonomic handle governs shifting, stopping, throttle control, and steering, leaving your other hand free for fishing or docking.
- Easy Starting: Equipped with an enhanced fuel primer and manual choke, the F9.9 is famous for its "first-pull" reliability. Even on electric-start models, a manual recoil starter is included as standard for total peace of mind.
- Lightweight & Portable: At just 38kg, it is one of the lightest engines in its class, making it easy to transport from the car to the transom.
- Shallow Water Drive: Explore further with 5 trim positions and a dedicated shallow water drive, allowing you to navigate skinny waters without risking your prop.
- Automatic Reverse Hooks: No more fumbling with levers; the engine automatically locks in place when shifted into reverse to prevent the motor from "kicking up."
- Clean & Quiet: The overhead cam (SOHC) design and through-prop exhaust ensure the engine runs whisper-quiet with minimal vibration and low emissions.

Mariner F9.9 Outboard FAQs
Does the engine come with a fuel tank and line?
Yes, absolutely. When you buy a Mariner F9.9 from us, it includes a standard 12-litre external fuel tank and the necessary fuel line assembly. It's ready to be connected and used right out of the box.
How do I know if I need a Short Shaft or Long Shaft?
This is the most critical measurement for your boat.
-
- Short Shaft (15"/381mm): Usually for smaller inflatables, tenders, and many "S"-standard transoms.
- Long Shaft (20"/508mm): Typically for sailboats, dayboats, or boats with a higher transom.
Pro Tip: Measure from the top of your boat's transom (where the engine sits) to the very bottom of the hull. If it’s around 15 inches, go short; if it’s 20 inches, go long.
What is the benefit of the Multi-Function Tiller Handle?
It’s all about one-handed operation. Unlike some older models, this handle integrates shifting, throttle control, stopping, and steering into one ergonomic grip. It makes docking and tight manoeuvres significantly easier, as you never have to take your hand off the tiller to find a gear lever.
Can I charge my boat battery with this engine?
Yes, both the manual and electric start models are equipped with a 6-amp (76-watt) alternator. This provides enough power to keep a starter battery topped up or to run basic electronics like a small fish finder or navigation lights while the engine is running.
How often does the F9.9 need servicing?
To maintain your 5-year warranty, the engine should be serviced annually or every 100 hours of use (whichever comes first). The first "break-in" service is particularly important and should happen after the first 20 hours of use. We stock genuine Mariner service kits here at the yard if you prefer to do the basics yourself.
Is it easy to start manually?
Mariner has engineered this with an enhanced fuel primer and manual choke, making it incredibly reliable. Even the electric-start models come with a manual recoil starter as a backup, so you’ll never be stranded if your battery is flat.
What fuel and oil should I use?
-
- Fuel: Standard unleaded petrol (90 RON minimum). If using E10, we recommend adding a fuel stabiliser if the boat sits for long periods.
- Oil: We recommend 10W-30 Mariner/Quicksilver FourStroke Oil. The engine takes approximately 0.8 litres.
Can I use this engine in shallow water?
Yes, the F9.9 features 5 trim positions plus a dedicated shallow water drive setting. This allows you to tilt the engine up slightly to clear the seabed while still keeping the water intake submerged and the prop providing thrust.
