Mariner F15 MLH EFI
Mariner F15 MLH EFI represents the next generation of portable outboards. By moving away from traditional carburettors to advanced Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI), Mariner has created an engine that starts instantly—hot or cold—and offers crisp, immediate throttle response regardless of the weather.
As a Long Shaft (MLH) model with manual start and tiller control, it is incredibly versatile. We often recommend this specific unit for boaters who want the simplicity of a manual pull-start but with the sophisticated "brain" of an EFI system. It's remarkably lightweight (approx. 45kg), making it one of the easiest 15hp engines to handle and install, while the innovative vibration-dampening mounts ensure your hand doesn't go numb after an afternoon of cruising.
Mariner F15 MLH EFI Key Features
- Battery-Free EFI: Enjoy the benefits of Electronic Fuel Injection without the need for a heavy starter battery. It delivers easy starts, better fuel economy, and smooth idling every time.
- Industry-Leading Tiller: The multi-function tiller handle is centre-mounted and fully adjustable. You can swap it for left or right-hand operation and adjust the vertical angle to suit your seating position.
- Lightweight Performance: Weighing in at just 45kg, this is one of the lightest 15hp outboards on the market, offering a superior power-to-weight ratio for faster planing.
- Superior Torque: The twin-cylinder, 333cc powerhead provides excellent low-end torque, giving you the "grunt" needed to get on the plane quickly, even with a loaded boat.
- Peace & Quiet: With through-propeller exhaust and an overhead cam design, this motor runs exceptionally quietly, allowing for easy conversation on board.
- Built for Durability: Constructed with low-copper aluminium alloy and a "lash-for-life" maintenance-free valve train, it’s designed to withstand the harsh UK marine environment.
- Safety First: Features a visual low-oil pressure warning system and an over-rev limiter to protect your engine from accidental damage.

Mariner F15 MLH EFI FAQs
Does this engine require a battery to start?
No, it doesn't. One of the best things about the Mariner F15 MLH EFI is its "battery-free" EFI system. Unlike older fuel-injected engines that needed a battery to power the computer and fuel pump, this model generates its own power the moment you pull the starter cord. It gives you the reliability of EFI with the lightweight simplicity of a manual-start portable.
What does "MLH" actually stand for?
It’s simply Mariner’s shorthand for the engine’s configuration:
M: Manual Start (Pull-cord)
L: Long Shaft (20-inch / 508mm transom height)
H: Hand Control (Tiller-steered)
How easy is it to start from cold?
Incredibly easy. Because it uses Electronic Fuel Injection, there’s no primer bulb to pump or choke to pull. The engine's computer (ECM) automatically adjusts the fuel mix based on the air temperature. Most of our customers find it starts on the first or second pull, even on those frosty British mornings.
Can I change the tiller handle for left-handed use?
Yes! The multi-function tiller is designed for total flexibility. You can actually adjust the throttle grip rotation so it feels natural whether you’re sitting on the port or starboard side of the boat. You can also adjust the vertical angle of the handle so it's at the perfect height for your seating position.
Does it come with a fuel tank?
Yes, it does. We supply this engine with a genuine Mariner 12.5-litre external fuel tank and the necessary fuel line with quick-connect fittings.
What kind of maintenance does it need to keep the 5-year warranty?
To keep that fantastic 5-year warranty valid, the engine needs to be serviced annually (or every 100 hours, whichever comes first) by an authorised Mariner dealer like us. We’ll check the oil, filters, and gear lubricant, and plug it into our diagnostic software to ensure everything is running perfectly.
Is this engine suitable for salt water?
Absolutely. Mariner builds these with a high-grade, low-copper aluminium alloy specifically designed for the marine environment. It also features a built-in freshwater flushing port, so you can easily rinse out the salt after a day on the coast without even needing to start the engine.
Can I charge a battery with this manual-start model?
Yes, you can. Even though it's a manual start, it comes fitted with a 6-amp (76-watt) alternator. If you choose to connect it to a battery, it can provide enough power to run basic electronics like a fish finder, GPS, or small navigation lights while you're underway.
