Lewmar’s patent-pending hybrid gypsy is a bit of a game-changer. It uses a metal core for strength where the rope/chain transitions, combined with a composite polymer chain wheel. This makes it 15% lighter, 5% stronger, and significantly quieter than traditional all-metal gypsies. No more "clatter" waking up the whole bay when you’re dropping anchor!

Will this fit in the same space as my old Lewmar V2 or V3?

Yes! One of the best things about the VX3 is that it shares the same footprint as the Lewmar V2 and V3 models. This makes it an ideal "drop-in" replacement, saving you from having to drill new holes in your deck.

How waterproof is the motor?

Can I use both rope and chain with this gypsy?

Absolutely. The VX3 gypsy is designed to handle both. It is compatible with:

Does it have a manual override?

Yes, it features a manual clutch release. In the unlikely event of an electrical failure, you can use a standard Lewmar winch handle to release the clutch and pay out the anchor safely.

Is it easy to add a chain counter later?

It couldn't be easier. The VX3 comes with a magnet and sensor pre-installed in the deck unit. If you decide to add a Lewmar chain counter at a later date, you won't need to take the windlass apart to fit the sensor.
