• Can I still operate the electric winch manually? Yes, all Lewmar EVO electric winches have a manual override feature. Inserting a standard winch handle into an unloaded winch automatically disconnects the electric motor, allowing for manual, two-speed operation, which is useful in case of power loss.

• How do I use the electric function? The winch operates at the push of a button. The electric function is single-speed, but the manual function still has two gears.

• What is the difference between the E Series and Electric Load Sensing (ELS) control options? The E Series controller includes a thermal trip to prevent motor overheating. The ELS (Electric Load Sensing) control box offers additional safety by cutting power automatically if the winch reaches its Working Load Limit (WLL), resuming power only when the load is reduced below the WLL.

• Is the operation noisy? The Lewmar EVO electric winches are designed for quiet operation. 

• What is included in the kit? The kit typically includes the winch unit, a contactor, motor, a circuit breaker/fuse, and a deck switch. For certain models (e.g., sizes 40 to 50), the contactor may come pre-mounted to the motor gearbox for simpler wiring.

• What are the power requirements? The winches are available in both 12V and 24V operating voltages. They draw a significant amount of current, up to 150-200 amps, but only for short durations. A sufficiently sized battery bank and appropriate heavy-gauge wiring are crucial to minimize power losses.

• How do I choose the correct size winch for my boat? It is generally recommended to select an electric winch that is at least the same size as your existing manual winch, if not a size larger, to ensure adequate power and prevent premature motor failure. The Working Load Limit (WLL) for each size varies (e.g., Size 45 has a WLL of 1200 kg).

• Are there specific mounting instructions? The winch should be mounted on a level surface, and the rope should enter the drum at a 5° to 10° angle to the base axis. Adequate space below deck is essential for the motor and gear components, which can be a tight fit on some boats. Backing pads should be used to spread the load over the deck structure.
