Honda BF80 HP Outboard Engine

Honda BF80 HP Outboard Engine is a compact, 4-stroke, 80-horsepower engine known for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and powerful acceleration provided by innovative Honda technologies. It features a sleek, hydrodynamic design to reduce water drag and integrates with modern marine electronics.

Honda BF80 HP Outboard Engine Key Features

The Honda BF80 incorporates several advanced features to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection): This electronic fuel injection system ensures precise fuel delivery, leading to easy starting, smooth running, and excellent performance while burning significantly less fuel.
  • BLAST™ (Boosted Low Speed Torque): This technology adjusts ignition timing and the air/fuel ratio at low RPMs to provide instant, powerful acceleration and help the boat get on plane quickly.
  • ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor) System: At cruising speeds, the lean-burn control system automatically adjusts the air/fuel mixture for optimal fuel consumption, increasing your range and reducing running costs.
  • NMEA 2000® Compatibility: The engine is NMEA 2000 compliant, allowing it to seamlessly share data (like RPM, temperature, and fuel consumption) with other compatible onboard electronic devices, such as fish finders and navigation systems.
  • High-Output Alternator: A powerful 44A alternator ensures that all your onboard electronic equipment stays powered up and the battery remains well-charged.
  • 4-Front Corrosion Protection System: The engine is built with a four-layer coating process, including a sealed aluminium casing, epoxy primer, and clear resin topcoat, to provide excellent protection against corrosion and wear in marine environments.

Honda BF80 HP Outboard Engine FAQs

      • What kind of fuel should I use? Always use a clean, high-quality, manufacturer-approved fuel. Fuel formulations vary by region and can deteriorate rapidly, so consult your dealer for specific recommendations, especially regarding ethanol content.
      • How often should I change the fuel filter?
Honda recommends replacing the fuel filter after 400 hours of use or every 2 years, whichever comes first. Regular checks and cleaning are also important.
      • What maintenance is required after use in saltwater?
After every use in saltwater, thoroughly flush the engine with fresh water using a flushing adapter for around 5 minutes to prevent corrosion. Also, wash and clean the exterior.
      • How should I store the outboard motor for a long period? For long-term storage (30 days or more), drain the fuel system to prevent the fuel from degrading and causing engine failures. Disconnect the battery as well. If you need to store it on its side, drain the engine oil first.
      • Can I perform maintenance myself? While basic maintenance like checking oil levels and flushing the system is possible for owners, incorrect inspection and maintenance can cause product failure. Honda recommends consulting an authorized dealer for professional servicing and complex repairs.
      • What is the charging system output?
The BF80 features a high-output charging system with a capacity of up to 40A (output of 55A), sufficient to power onboard electronics and keep the battery charged.
      • Is the engine compatible with other marine electronics? Yes, the Honda BF80 is NMEA2000® compliant, allowing for seamless integration with onboard electronics like chartplotters and fish finders.
