Honda BF6 HP Outboard Engine
Honda BF6 HP Outboard Engine has been meticulously re-engineered to provide a smooth, quiet, and incredibly efficient experience on the water. At the heart of this portable powerhouse is a 127cc single-cylinder engine that delivers high levels of torque and brisk acceleration without the bulk.
One of its most impressive features is the 1.5-litre internal fuel tank, which is the largest in its class, giving you a fantastic range for longer trips without needing an external tank. For those planning extended adventures, it also includes a connector for an additional external fuel tank. Finished in Honda’s signature shimmering silver with 4Front Corrosion Protection, this engine isn't just built to perform—it’s built to last in the harshest marine environments.
Honda BF6 HP Outboard Engine Key Features
- Easy Starting: Equipped with a decompression mechanism, the recoil start requires minimal effort, making it accessible for everyone on board.
- Ultimate Portability: One of the lightest in its class (starting at 27kg), featuring an ergonomic carry handle and a foldable tiller for easy transport and compact storage.
- Refined Comfort: Innovative rubber engine mounts ensure extremely low vibration levels, while the underwater exhaust keeps noise to a minimum for a peaceful ride.
- Safety First: An integrated oil alert system monitors pressure and automatically drops the revs to protect your engine if levels fall.
- Versatile Charging: Available variants (SHU/LHU) feature a 6A charging coil, allowing you to power your electronics while on the move.
- Superior Durability: A four-layer coating process and sacrificial anodes protect against UV rays and salt water, backed by Honda’s excellent warranty.
At Morgan Marine, we want to ensure you get the exact specification for your boat's transom and your power needs. The Honda BF6 range is primarily divided by shaft length and whether or not you require a charging coil to power on-board electronics.
Avaiable Variants :
-
- BF6 SHNU - Weight - 27KG
- BF6 LHNU - Weight - 28KG
- BF6 SHU - Weight - 27KG

Honda BF6 HP Outboard Engine FAQs
Is the Honda BF8 easy to transport?
Absolutely. The BF8 is designed with portability at its core. It features integrated, foldaway carrying handles that are positioned at the exact balance point. This means you can carry the engine level without it awkwardly knocking against your legs. It’s the perfect companion for inflatables and tenders.
What types of boats is this engine best suited for?
The BF8 is incredibly versatile. We often recommend it as the primary power source for:
- Inflatables and RIBs
- Dinghies and Skiffs
- Day boats
It also serves as an exceptional ‘kicker’ or auxiliary motor for larger fishing vessels and sailboats.
Is it difficult to pull-start?
Not at all. Honda has engineered this model with a decompression system. This essentially "bleeds off" cylinder pressure during the initial pull, significantly reducing the force required to turn the engine over. Whether you choose the manual recoil or the electric start, it’s designed for a stress-free departure from the quay.
How does it perform in reverse?
This is where the BF8 truly shines compared to its competitors. It features a unique Reverse Exhaust Relief system. By directing exhaust bubbles away from the propeller while in reverse, the blades can "grip" clean water. This gives you instant response and much finer control when manoeuvring into a tight berth.
Can it charge my on-board electronics?
Yes. Even at trolling speeds, the BF8's high-output charging system (up to 12A on electric start models) ensures your battery stays topped up and your electronics—like fish finders or GPS—remain powered throughout your trip.
What is the difference between the Short (S) and Long (L) shaft?
Choosing the right shaft length is vital for performance:
-
- Short Shaft (381mm / 15"): Generally for smaller inflatables and boats with a lower transom.
- Long Shaft (508mm / 20"): Typically for larger boats or those used as auxiliary engines where the mounting point is higher.
If you’re unsure which you need, give our team at the boatyard a call and we can advise based on your boat model.
What kind of warranty comes with the engine?
When you buy from an authorised dealer like Morgan Marine, you benefit from Honda’s industry-leading 6-year domestic warranty. This covers both parts and labour, provided you follow the regular service schedule. For commercial use, a 2-year warranty applies.
How do I maintain the engine to keep the warranty valid?
To keep your BF8 in top shape and maintain that 6-year warranty, you should:
-
- Flush with fresh water after every use in salt water (there is a handy flushing port for this).
- Check oil levels before every trip.
Book a professional service at Morgan Marine or your local authorised dealer. The first service is typically at 20 hours (or 1 month), followed by annual servicing or every 100 hours.
