Honda BF50 HP Outboard Engine

Honda BF50 HP Outboard Engine are  a lightweight, compact, 4-stroke, 50-horsepower engine known for its fuel efficiency, strong acceleration, and reliable performance. It incorporates innovative Honda technologies like PGM-FI electronic fuel injection, BLAST™ (Boosted Low Speed Torque), and ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor) systems

Honda BF50 HP Outboard Engine Key Features

  • PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection): This electronic fuel injection system ensures easy starting, crisp throttle response, and overall better fuel economy by delivering the precise amount of fuel at the optimal time.
  • BLAST™ (Boosted Low Speed Torque): This technology significantly improves acceleration and "hole shot" performance (getting the boat onto a plane quickly) by advancing the ignition timing during rapid acceleration.
  • ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor) System: Also known as lean burn control, this feature optimizes the air/fuel mixture during cruising speeds (around 3,000-4,500 rpm) to achieve superior fuel efficiency, potentially running on up to 20% less fuel than other engines in its class.
  • High Output Alternator: The engine features a robust 22-amp alternator (with 17-amp charging capacity) to provide ample power for on-board electronics and battery charging needs.
  • Corrosion Protection: The engine includes a four-layer coating process, sacrificial anodes, and a freshwater flush port for enhanced durability and easy maintenance in harsh marine environments.
  • NMEA 2000® Connectivity: The engine is NMEA 2000 compliant, allowing for seamless integration with other compatible marine electronic devices like chart plotters and depth finders.
  • Trolling Control: An optional feature that allows for precise adjustments to engine speed in increments of 50 rpm, ideal for slow-speed manoeuvres and fishing.

Honda BF50 HP Outboard Engine FAQs

    • What type of fuel should I use? Honda engines are designed to run on regular unleaded gasoline. If storing the engine for 30 days or more, drain the fuel to prevent it from aging and causing engine problems.
    • What type of engine oil should I use? Honda recommends using
Honda Marine 10W-30 FC-W engine oil or 5W-30M engine oil, which is specially formulated for marine engines.
    • How do I transport or store the outboard motor? The engine is designed to be transported in an upright position. If it must be laid on its side, consult your Owner's Manual for specific instructions to avoid damage. For long-term storage, disconnect the battery and drain the fuel tank.
    • How often should I perform maintenance?
      • Perform basic checks before each use, such as checking the engine oil level and cooling water flow.
      • Every 6 months or 100 hours (whichever is first), you should change the engine oil, check and adjust the spark plugs, grease lubrication points, and check the fuel filter.
    • How do I flush the engine after use in salt water? After operating in salt water, you must thoroughly clean and flush the outboard with fresh water to prevent corrosion. You can connect a coupling to an outlet to run fresh water through the engine or use "ear muffs" over the water intake, ensuring adequate water flow.
