Honda BF135 HP Outboard Engine

Honda BF135 HP Outboard Engine are a reliable and fuel-efficient four-stroke, 135-horsepower motor known for its advanced technology, quiet operation, and strong performance across all speed ranges. It is based on the robust engine architecture of the globally popular Honda Accord automotive engine, ensuring long-term durability.

Honda BF135 HP Outboard Engine Key Features

  • Engine Type: The BF135 features a 4-stroke, in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC (Dual Overhead Cam) design with a displacement of 2,354 cc.
  • Fuel Efficiency: It incorporates ECOmo Lean Burn Control® technology, which adjusts the air/fuel mixture for optimal efficiency at cruising speeds, resulting in up to 45% better fuel economy than conventional two-strokes.
  • Performance: The BLAST™ (Boosted Low Speed Torque) system provides rapid acceleration and improved "hole shot" performance by advancing the ignition curve aggressively under a quick throttle movement.
  • Dual Stage Induction: A variable air intake manifold optimizes airflow to match engine speed, increasing low-end torque and high-end power.
  • Corrosion Protection: Honda's "4-Front" corrosion protection system uses a patented, double-sealed multi-layered paint process, along with sacrificial anodes and stainless steel components, for enhanced durability in marine environments.
  • Smooth Operation: The engine features twin balancer shafts and patented non-linear rubber mounts to significantly reduce noise and vibration, providing a more comfortable boating experience.
  • Charging Power: An "on-demand" belt-driven alternator provides superior battery charging capability, delivering 30 amps at 1000 RPM and over 40 amps above 2000 RPM.
  • Connectivity: Many models are NMEA2000® compliant, allowing engine data to be displayed on compatible GPS or fishfinder screens.

Honda BF135 HP Outboard Engine FAQs

  • Does the engine come with oil? No, Honda BF135 outboard motors do not contain engine oil when shipped from the factory; you must purchase and add oil before the first use. They do contain gear oil.
  • What type of engine oil should I use? Honda recommends SAE 10W-30 engine oil, equivalent to API service classification SG, SH, SJ, or SL.
  • How often should I replace the fuel filter? The fuel filter should be replaced every 2 years or 400 hours of use, whichever comes first. Regular inspection and cleaning of the fuel filter is also important.
  • How should I store the outboard motor for a long period? If the motor will not be used for 30 days or more, you should drain the fuel completely to prevent the fuel from degrading and causing engine failures. It is also recommended to have it serviced by a local dealer before storage.
  • Can the engine be laid on its side for transport? The engine is designed to be transported in an upright position. If laying it on its side is unavoidable, you must drain the engine oil first and follow specific instructions in the owner's manual to avoid damage.
  • How do I flush the engine after use in salt water? Honda BF135 and higher horsepower outboards are equipped with a garden hose style flush port. Tilt the outboard to the down position, remove the engine cover, attach a garden hose to the flush adapter, and allow fresh water to run through the engine for at least 10 minutes.
