Highfield Ultralite 290 PVC

Highfield Ultralite 290 PVC are a lightweight, durable rigid inflatable boat (RIB) tender known for its robust powder-coated aluminium hull and Valmex PVC tubes. It is designed for easy transport and worry-free use, making it an alternative to soft-bottom tenders.

Highfield Ultralite 290 PVC Key Features

The Ultralite 290 combines a low weight with the performance of a hard hull, making it suitable for a variety of uses from ship-to-shore transport to coastal adventures.
  • Hull: Features a high-tensile, chromated, and powder-coated aluminium hull.
  • Tubes: The inflatable tubes are made from durable Valmex (Mehler Texnologies) PVC fabric with welded seams for reliability.
  • Weight & Transport: Weighing only 39kg (86 lbs) without an engine, it can be launched and retrieved by a single person and transported on a roof rack.
  • Performance: A 15-degree deadrise in the hull design helps the boat go further and perform well on the water.

    Highfield Ultralite 290 PVC FAQs

What material is the hull and tube made of?

      • The hull is made of 2.5mm thick powder-coated marine-grade aluminium.
      • The inflatable tube is made of Valmex® PVC fabric with welded seams.

How should I clean and maintain the PVC tubes?

Use an inflatable boat cleaner to remove dirt and environmental contaminants. Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight. Applying a protectant, such as 303 Aerospace Protectant, after cleaning can help protect the material from UV rays and keep it supple.

How do I fix a leak in the PVC material?

Identify the leak by running water or a soap and water solution over the suspect area. For a small hole, cut a round patch with at least 30mm of patch around the hole. Roughen both the patch and the area around the hole with sandpaper or a scratch stone. Apply a two-part PVC adhesive (Hypalon adhesives are not compatible), apply a second coat, heat to reactivate, and press the patch firmly onto the tube, rolling it with a roller for best adhesion. Do not fully inflate the boat for 24 hours after the repair.

How long can I expect a PVC inflatable boat to last?

With high-quality fabric and proper care, a PVC inflatable can last between 5-10 years. Exposure to UV rays and cold temperatures can shorten its lifespan if not properly cared for.

How should I transport the boat?

      • The boat is lightweight and can often be transported on a vehicle roof rack.
      • When trailering, ensure the boat is properly balanced and secured with at least two ratchet straps to prevent shifting.

    Can the boat be beached?

Highfield recommends against powering the boat onto the beach or dragging it across rocks, sand, or gravel, as this can damage the hull or fabric

What air pressure should the tubes be inflated to?

The tubes should be inflated to a pressure of 0.25 bar for ideal performance
