Highfield Ultralite 260 HYP
Highfield Ultralite 260 HYP is the ideal solution for boaters who want the rugged performance of a hard-hulled RIB without the heavy lifting.
Weighing in at just 35kg, this incredibly light tender is easy to launch and recover by a single person and can be effortlessly transported on a roof rack or davits. Despite its light footprint, the UL260 doesn't compromise on durability. Built with a 2.5mm thick, high-tensile powder-coated aluminium hull, it is designed to take the knocks that would chip a traditional fibreglass boat. Whether you’re pulling up onto a shingle beach or navigating shallow waters, this hull is built to last.
The 'HYP' model features premium ORCA® Hypalon tubes, specifically chosen for their superior resistance to UV rays, temperature extremes, and chemicals—making it the definitive choice for those keeping their tender in high-exposure environments or tropical climates.
With a spacious interior that comfortably carries up to three adults and one child, the UL260 offers a stable, dry, and high-performance ride that simply cannot be matched by soft-bottom inflatables.

Highfield Ultralite 260 HYP FAQs
What makes the 'HYP' model different from the standard PVC version?
The 'HYP' stands for ORCA® Hypalon. While both versions share the same high-quality aluminium hull, Hypalon is a premium rubber-based material. It is significantly more resistant to UV degradation, extreme temperatures, and chemical exposure (such as fuel or oil). If you plan to keep your tender on davits or in a sunny climate for extended periods, Hypalon is the "gold standard" for longevity and hold its value much better over time.
How heavy is the UL260, and can I manage it on my own?
Weight is where this boat truly shines. The boat itself weighs approximately 35kg. This makes it one of the lightest hard-hulled RIBs on the market. It is specifically designed to be launched and recovered by a single person. You can easily lift it onto a car roof rack or pull it up onto a swim platform without needing a crane or multiple crew members.
What outboard motor do you recommend for the Ultralite 260?
The UL260 is rated for a maximum of 6hp, but it performs beautifully with a 4hp short-shaft motor. Because the hull is so light, it gets onto the plane with very little effort. At Morgan Marine, we often package these with Honda or Yamaha outboards—just ask our team for a "ready-to-float" package price.
Is the aluminium hull better than a traditional fibreglass one?
Absolutely, especially for use as a tender. Aluminium is much tougher than GRP (fibreglass); it won't crack or chip when you run it onto a shingle beach or knock it against a stone quay. Furthermore, it doesn't absorb water over time, meaning it stays lightweight and doesn't suffer from osmosis. Our hulls are also powder-coated and chromated to prevent corrosion.
How many people can the boat carry safely?
The UL260 is officially rated for 3 adults and 1 child, with a maximum load capacity of 340kg. Even when fully loaded, the 10.5-degree deadrise hull provides a stable and dry ride, which is a significant step up from the "wobbly" feeling of a soft-bottomed inflatable.
Does it come with any accessories?
Yes, it comes surprisingly well-equipped. As standard, you will receive:
-
- A removable aluminium seat
- High-quality oars and oarlocks
- A foot pump
- A repair kit
- An under-seat storage bag and a Highfield dry bag for your valuables.
How do I maintain the Hypalon tubes?
Hypalon is very low maintenance, but we recommend rinsing it with fresh water after use in salt water. If you want to keep it looking showroom-fresh, a dedicated inflatable boat protector (like 303 Aerospace) can be used once or twice a season. Tip from the workshop: Always keep the tubes properly inflated; a soft boat is more prone to wear and tear.
What is the warranty on a new Highfield?
When you buy through an authorised dealer like Morgan Marine, you benefit from Highfield’s excellent warranty. The hull is covered for 5 years, and the ORCA® Hypalon tubes carry a 10-year warranty (upon registration), giving you total peace of mind for a decade of boating.
