Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Standard Corepack - with Helm Control Display

Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Standard Corepack - with Helm Control Display system represents the pinnacle of Garmin’s autopilot technology, specifically designed for vessels equipped with steer-by-wire systems such as SeaStar Optimus, Yanmar Marine ZT370, and ZF 2800 Pod drives. By combining the precision of a 9-axis AHRS with the sleek, modern interface of the GHC 50, this corepack provides the ultimate "extra hand" on deck, allowing you to focus on the horizon while the Reactor 40 handles the helm.

Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Standard Corepack - with Helm Control Display Key Features

  • Advanced 9-Axis AHRS The heart of the system is the solid-state 9-axis Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). This industry-leading technology allows the Reactor 40 to be mounted almost anywhere on your vessel, in any orientation. It significantly reduces power consumption and heading errors, ensuring a smooth, comfortable ride for everyone on board.
  • Dynamic Response to Sea Conditions Whether you are facing a following sea or heavy swell, the Reactor 40 reacts instantly to the water. It maintains your course even when the boat is pitching and rolling, providing consistent reliability when you need it most.
  • Intuitive GHC 50 Helm Control The included GHC 50 is a premium 5-inch glass-touchscreen display that brings a modern look to your helm. With its bright, anti-glare WVGA display and easy-to-use interface, controlling your autopilot is as simple as a few taps. It shares data seamlessly with other Garmin devices on your network.
  • Fast, Simple Calibration We know our customers want to spend less time at the dock and more time on the water. Garmin has engineered the Reactor 40 with a streamlined commissioning process, making calibration faster and easier than traditional autopilot systems.
  • Full Integration & Remote Control When paired with a compatible Garmin chartplotter, you gain full control of the autopilot from your MFD. Furthermore, the system is compatible with the Reactor remote and select quatix® marine smartwatches, allowing you to adjust course from anywhere on the vessel.
  • Specialised Steering Support This standard corepack is engineered specifically for steer-by-wire systems, ensuring seamless communication with your boat's existing electronic steering infrastructure for a responsive and integrated feel.

Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Standard Corepack - with Helm Control Display FAQs

Is my boat compatible with the Steer-by-wire system?

The Reactor 40 SBW is specifically designed for vessels with factory-installed electronic steering systems (such as Yanmar® JC10, Volvo Penta®, or Evinrude®).

Top Tip: If your boat uses traditional hydraulic or mechanical steering, you’ll likely need a different Reactor 40 kit (like the Hydraulic or Mechanical versions). If you're unsure, just give us a ring at the boatyard!

What exactly is included in the "Standard Corepack"?

    • This kit is the "brain and heart" of your autopilot. It includes:
    • The GHC 50 Helm Control Display: A bright, 5-inch touchscreen to manage your heading.
    • The Reactor 40 CCU (Course Computer Unit): The 9-axis AHRS that keeps you on track even in heavy seas.
    • Cables & Buzzers: All the necessary NMEA 2000® drop cables, T-connectors, and an alarm buzzer.

Will this work with my existing Garmin Chartplotter?

Absolutely. While the included GHC 50 display allows for full control, the Reactor 40 integrates seamlessly with compatible Garmin echoMAP™ or GPSMAP® units. This allows you to engage the autopilot directly from your plotter screen.

How does the "9-axis AHRS" help me in the water?

The Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) is what makes the Reactor 40 so robust. It reacts to the boat's movement—pitch, roll, and yaw—to ensure that even when the North Sea gets a bit "lively," your boat maintains its course without hunting or aggressive over-correcting.

Do I need to perform a complicated calibration?

Gone are the days of doing endless circles in the harbour! The Reactor 40 features a straightforward commissioning process and automatic calibration. While we always recommend professional installation, the software side is remarkably user-friendly.

Can I use this for trolling or low-speed manoeuvres?

Yes. Because the SBW system communicates directly with your engine's electronic steering, it provides incredibly precise control even at lower speeds, making it a favourite for those long days of fishing or navigating tight estuaries.

Is the GHC 50 display easy to read in direct sunlight?

It’s brilliant, actually. The GHC 50 features a high-resolution, anti-glare glass display. Whether you’re at the flybridge in high noon or navigating a misty morning at the marina, the interface is crisp and easy to navigate.
