Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Corepack for Yamaha Helm Master FAQs

Is this corepack compatible with my specific Yamaha system?

This particular Reactor 40 corepack is specifically engineered to work seamlessly with Yamaha® Helm Master® systems. It is a "steer-by-wire" solution, meaning it integrates directly with your boat's electronic steering rather than using a traditional hydraulic pump.

What exactly comes in the box?

When you purchase this corepack from us, you’ll receive the "brain" of the system:

    • Reactor 40 CCU (Course Computer Unit)
    • Yamaha Autopilot Gateway (The crucial link to your Helm Master system)
    • NMEA 2000® Installation Kit (Cables, T-connectors, and terminators)
    • Buzzer/Alarm

Note: Depending on the variant you choose, it may or may not include a GHC™ 50 or GHC™ 20 control instrument.

Do I need a separate control screen, or can I use my existing chartplotter?

The beauty of the Garmin ecosystem is its integration. You can control the autopilot directly from any compatible Garmin networked chartplotter. However, many of our customers prefer adding a dedicated GHC™ 50 touchscreen display at the helm so they can keep their main screen focused on the charts or sonar.

How does the "9-axis AHRS" benefit my boating?

The solid-state 9-axis Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) is the star of the show. It allows the autopilot to react to the actual movement of the sea. Even if your boat is pitching and rolling in heavy chop, the system stays locked on course. It also means you can mount the CCU almost anywhere and in any orientation on the boat.

Is the calibration process difficult?

Not at all. Garmin has designed this system with "minimal commissioning." While all autopilots require some setup, the Reactor 40 features a streamlined dockside wizard and sea trial process that gets you out on the water much faster than older systems.

Can I control the autopilot from elsewhere on the boat?

Yes! If you’re at the stern or away from the helm, you can control the system using a compatible Garmin quatix® marine smartwatch or the optional Reactor handheld remote. It’s perfect for shorthanded sailing or when you’re busy with fishing gear.

Does it offer any advanced trolling or search features?

Absolutely. When paired with a compatible Garmin plotter, the system can perform pre-programmed patterns like circles, zig-zags, and Williamson turns. If you have BlueChart® g2 Vision® or the latest Garmin Navionics+™ charts, you can also use Auto Guidance+™ to follow a suggested path to your destination.

Why should I buy my Garmin gear from Morgan Marine?

At Morgan Marine, we don't just sell boxes; we’re a fully equipped boatyard. Our engineers have a background in high-performance marine systems . We can provide expert advice on the NMEA 2000® networking required for your install, and our chandlery is always stocked with the extra cables or bits you might need to get the job done right.
