Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Corepack for Yamaha Helm Master
Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Corepack for Yamaha Helm Master are Specifically engineered for boats equipped with the Yamaha Helm Master system, this advanced autopilot system brings commercial-grade technology to your fingertips.
This corepack is the perfect companion for your Yamaha setup, providing robust, reliable, and incredibly responsive steering. Paired with the premium GHC 50 colour touchscreen instrument, it offers a sleek, modern helm aesthetic with intuitive control that makes navigating even the most challenging coastal conditions a breeze.
The heart of this system is the solid-state 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System). This technology allows the autopilot to react to the sea exactly like an experienced skipper would. Whether you are dealing with a heavy swell or a following sea, the Reactor 40 constantly adjusts to maintain your course, reducing heading error and rudder movement to ensure a smoother, more fuel-efficient ride for everyone on board.

Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Corepack for Yamaha Helm Master FAQs
Is this system compatible with all Yamaha outboards?
This specific corepack is designed exclusively for boats equipped with the Yamaha Helm Master® steer-by-wire system. It is important to note that it is not compatible with the newer Yamaha Helm Master EX versions. If you are unsure which system you have installed, please get in touch with our team at the boatyard, and we can verify this for you.
What is included in the ‘Corepack’?
We provide everything you need to get the system integrated with your Yamaha setup. The box includes the Reactor 40 CCU (Course Computer Unit), the premium GHC 50 touchscreen autopilot instrument, the essential Yamaha Gateway, a buzzer/alarm, and all the necessary NMEA 2000® cables and connectors to complete the network.
Do I need a Garmin Chartplotter to use this?
While the included GHC 50 allows for dedicated control at the helm, the Reactor 40 system requires a compatible Garmin chartplotter for full functionality, including setup, commissioning, and advanced features like Auto Guidance+™.
What makes the GHC 50 different from the older GHC 20?
The GHC 50 is a significant upgrade. It features a bright, high-resolution 5-inch touchscreen with an edge-to-edge glass design that matches the modern look of the latest Garmin GPSMAP® x3 series. It’s not just about looks, though—the touchscreen interface makes navigating menus and adjusting your course far more intuitive than traditional button-operated units.
How difficult is the calibration process?
Garmin has made this incredibly straightforward. Unlike older systems that required complex "sea trials," the Reactor 40 features a streamlined commissioning process. Once installed, the 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) handles most of the heavy lifting, meaning you can get out of the marina and onto the open water much faster.
Can I mount the CCU (Course Computer Unit) anywhere?
One of the best things about the 9-axis AHRS technology is its flexibility. Because it is solid-state, you can mount the CCU in almost any orientation and in various locations on the boat. However, we always recommend keeping it away from sources of magnetic interference, such as speakers or large motors, to ensure the highest heading accuracy.
Does it support "Shadow Drive™"?
While "Shadow Drive" (which lets you take manual control of the helm and then re-engages the pilot automatically) is a popular Garmin feature, it is typically used with hydraulic systems. Because this is a Steer-by-wire system that integrates directly with Yamaha’s digital helm, the steering logic is handled through the Yamaha Gateway, providing a seamless digital hand-off between you and the autopilot.
Can I control the autopilot from my watch?
Yes! If you have a compatible Garmin quatix® marine smartwatch or the Reactor handheld remote, you can control your steering, heading hold, and course corrections from anywhere on deck. It’s a fantastic feature for single-handed sailors or when you're busy at the stern with fishing lines.
Is it waterproof?
Absolutely. Both the CCU and the GHC 50 are rated to IPX7 standards, meaning they can withstand incidental exposure to water of up to 1 metre for 30 minutes. They are built to thrive in the harsh British marine environment.
