Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Corepack for Yamaha Helm Master
Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-wire Core pack for Yamaha Helm Master are specifically engineered to bring commercial-grade autopilot performance to your Yamaha Helm Master system.
This core pack is the perfect companion for your digital helm, offering a level of responsiveness that was once the reserve of professional mariners. Whether you’re trolling for bass or making a long-distance passage, the Reactor 40 acts as an extra pair of hands, allowing you to focus on your surroundings while it handles the precision steering.
The heart of this system is the solid-state 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System). This advanced technology means the autopilot doesn't just follow a compass heading; it actually reacts to the sea. Even when your boat is pitching and rolling in a heavy swell, the Reactor 40 maintains a remarkably steady course.
Paired with the premium GHC 50 autopilot instrument, you get a bright, 5-inch touchscreen display that looks stunning at any helm. Its edge-to-edge glass design integrates perfectly with modern Garmin glass cockpits, giving you intuitive "touch-to-steer" control at your fingertips.

FAQs
Is this core pack compatible with my Yamaha engine setup?
This specific core pack is designed exclusively for boats equipped with the Yamaha Helm Master (Steer-by-Wire) system. It allows the Garmin autopilot to interface directly with Yamaha’s digital steering.
Please note: This core pack is not compatible with the newer Yamaha Helm Master EX system. If you have the EX version, please contact our team, and we can point you toward the correct integration kit.
Do I need a separate Garmin Screen (GHC) to run this?
This core pack is available in two configurations:
-
- With GHC 50/20: Includes a dedicated touchscreen or button-controlled instrument for the dash. This is ideal if you want a permanent, dedicated autopilot display.
- Core pack Only: If you already have a compatible Garmin GPSMAP® chart plotter at the helm, you can control the autopilot directly from your plotter screen, potentially saving you dash space and cost.
What is a "9-Axis AHRS" and why does it matter?
The "brain" of this system is the solid-state 9-axis Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). Because it has no moving parts, it is incredibly reliable and reacts instantly to sea conditions. It allows the autopilot to keep you on a steady course even when the boat is pitching and rolling in heavy swells.
Can I mount the Course Computer (CCU) anywhere?
Almost! Thanks to that 9-axis AHRS, the CCU can be mounted in any orientation. However, for the best performance, we recommend mounting it near the boat's centre of rotation and away from magnetic interference (like speakers or large iron anchors). At Morgan Marine, our engineers can advise on the optimum placement for your specific hull.
Does it support "Auto Guidance"?
Yes. When paired with a compatible Garmin chartplotter and BlueChart® g3 Vision® charts (sold separately), you can use Auto Guidance+™. This allows the system to calculate a suggested path to your destination, avoiding known hazards and shallow water, and then steer the boat along that path.
Is it difficult to calibrate?
One of the reasons we recommend the Reactor 40 is its "Power of Simple" calibration. While older systems required complex sea trials, the Reactor 40 features a streamlined commissioning wizard that gets you out on the water much faster.
Can I control the autopilot from away from the helm?
Absolutely. If you are fishing at the stern or relaxing on the flybridge, you can control the system using a Garmin Autopilot Remote or even a compatible quatix® marine smartwatch.
What’s included in the box?
When you buy the corepack from us, you’ll receive:
-
- Reactor 40 CCU (Course Computer Unit)
- Yamaha Gateway (to talk to your engines)
- NMEA 2000® drop cables, T-connectors, and power cable
- Buzzer/Alarm (to notify you of status changes)
- GHC Autopilot Instrument (if you select the bundle option)
Can I install this myself?
While the system is "plug-and-play" in terms of data, it requires integration into your NMEA 2000 network and your Yamaha digital backbone. For peace of mind and to ensure your warranty remains valid, we recommend professional installation.
