Garmin GMR 1224 xHD2 GMR 1224xHD Top Assy, Pedestal FAQs
- The chartplotter does not detect the radar. Check the security of the Marine Network cable connection at both the radar pedestal and the chartplotter. Try swapping the network cable with a known working one from another device to rule out a faulty cable. Ensure both the chartplotter and the radar software are updated to the latest version.
- The radar loses heading when the boat is stationary (e.g., anchored or on spot lock). This is a known limitation without an additional sensor. For true heading when not in motion, Garmin technical support recommends installing a separate heading sensor, such as the SteadyCast or 9-axis sensor, or an autopilot system.
- Can I use an old voltage converter from a previous radar model? No, older voltage converters are not compatible with the xHD2 12kW pedestals. The correct voltage converter is included with the new radar unit and must be used.
- What do the different status light colours mean? A blinking green light indicates normal operation. A blinking red light indicates an error that requires further troubleshooting.
Safety and Service Warnings
- The radar scanner contains high voltages that can cause injury or death. Ensure the unit is turned off and the high voltages have had time to decay before removing covers or performing any service.
- Radiation Risk: The radar transmits non-ionizing radiation. Never look directly at the antenna at close range when the radar is transmitting. The antenna must be removed and an antenna terminator installed before performing bench tests.
- Pacemaker Warning: The unit contains a magnetron. Persons with a cardiac pacemaker should not perform service on the radar that would place them in close proximity to the magnetron.
- Professional Help: Repairing Garmin marine electronics can be complex. Self-repair is intended for individuals with the necessary knowledge and experience. Incorrect repairs can result in injury or product damage.
