Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 0° Tilt
Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 0° Tilt is a low-profile, bronze thru-hull transducer designed for those who demand crystal-clear detail and maximum coverage.
What sets the "HW" (High-Wide) version apart is its constant 25-degree beamwidth. Unlike traditional transducers that narrow as frequency increases, this unit maintains a wide, consistent beam across the entire 150-250 kHz band. For you, this means twice the coverage under the boat compared to standard high-frequency transducers, making it far easier to spot fish in the upper water column and create those perfect, large fish arches on your display.
This 0° Tilt model is specifically engineered for boats with a hull deadrise of 0 to 7 degrees. Because the ceramic element is fixed at a tilt inside the housing, it sits flush with your hull while the beam points straight down, ensuring the most accurate echo returns and maintaining your boat's sleek profile on the water or trailer.
Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 0° Tilt Key Features
- 1kW High-Wide CHIRP: Delivers superior target separation and high-resolution imagery, allowing you to distinguish between baitfish and prized game fish with ease.
- Constant 25° Beamwidth: Provides massive coverage under the boat—perfect for searching out pelagic species or tracking fish in shallower inshore waters.
-
0° Tilted Element: Specifically designed for flat or shallow-deadrise hulls (0° to 7°). No fairing block is required, keeping the installation clean and reducing drag.
- Depth and Temperature: Includes a fast-response water temperature sensor alongside its powerful depth-sensing capabilities.
- Low-Profile Design: The bronze housing protrudes less than 6.35mm (1/4") outside the hull, meaning it won’t interfere with trailer rollers or bunks.
- Depth Range: Highly effective down to 152 metres (500 feet), making it the ideal choice for both inshore and coastal fishing.
- 8-Pin Connectivity: Seamlessly integrates with your Garmin setup (check your specific chartplotter for compatibility or required adapter cables).
Morgan Marine Expert Tip: The B175HW is the "go-to" choice for many of our customers fishing in UK waters. Whether you are wreck fishing or searching for bass over the reefs, the wide beam ensures you don't miss a thing as you pass over the target.

Garmin AIRMAR B175HW 0° Tilt FAQs
What does the "HW" in B175HW actually stand for?
"HW" stands for High-Wide. While standard high-frequency transducers usually have a narrow beam (around 6° to 10°), the B175HW has a constant 25° beam angle. This means you get much wider coverage under the boat—roughly double the area of a standard transducer—making it far easier to spot fish arches in the upper water column.
Why do I need the 0° Tilt version?
The "Tilt" refers to the angle of the internal ceramic element. Since this is a thru-hull transducer that sits nearly flush, it doesn't use a fairing block. The 0° Tilt version is specifically designed for boats with a hull deadrise of 0° to 7°. If your hull is flat or has a very shallow V at the mounting point, the 0° tilt ensures the sonar beam points straight down for the most accurate readings.
What kind of depths can I expect to reach?
The B175HW is a 1kW powerhouse. It is optimised for superior resolution in "shallow" to mid-range depths. You can expect excellent performance down to approximately 150 metres (500 feet). Beyond these depths, the wide beam starts to lose its effectiveness compared to a narrow-beam "Medium" or "Low" frequency transducer.
Is this transducer compatible with my Garmin Chartplotter?
This model typically comes with a Garmin 8-pin connector. It is compatible with a wide range of Garmin echoMAP™ and GPSMAP® series units that support 1kW CHIRP sonar. If you have a newer 12-pin "xsv" unit, you may require an adapter cable (8-pin to 12-pin), which we can provide here at Morgan Marine.
My boat is made of aluminium; can I use this bronze transducer?
No. We strongly advise against installing a bronze transducer in an aluminium hull, as it will cause galvanic corrosion which can damage your hull. For aluminium boats, you should look for the stainless steel version (SS175HW). This bronze B175HW is designed strictly for fiberglass or wood hulls.
Will it work while I’m cruising at high speed?
Yes. Because the B175HW is a low-profile thru-hull mount, it sits nearly flush against the hull (protruding less than 6mm). This results in "clean" water flow over the face of the transducer, allowing for clear sonar returns even when your boat is on the plane, provided it is installed in a location free from turbulence.
What data will I see on my screen?
The B175HW provides high-accuracy Depth and Fast-response Water Temperature data. Because it uses CHIRP technology (150-250 kHz), you’ll see incredible target separation—meaning you can actually distinguish between individual baitfish and larger predators.
Can I install this myself?
While a confident DIYer can install a thru-hull transducer, it does require drilling a 95mm (3.75") hole in your hull. It is also vital to use the correct marine sealant and ensure the internal orientation arrow points toward the keel. If you’re unsure, our service team at Morgan Marine is always on hand to offer professional installation services.
Does it come with everything needed for installation?
The box includes the transducer with its attached cable and the necessary mounting hardware (nut and washer). You will need to supply your own marine-grade sealant (like 3M 4200 or 5200).
