Garmin AIRMAR B175HW
Garmin AIRMAR B175HW are a powerhouse 1kW thru-hull transducer designed for anglers who refuse to compromise on detail.
What sets the "HW" (High-Wide) apart is its unique 25° constant beamwidth. While traditional high-frequency transducers focus on a narrow slice of the bottom, the B175HW provides massive coverage in the upper water column. This makes it the premier choice for tracking pelagic species like Tuna or Marlin, and for picking out clear, distinct fish arches that narrower beams might miss.
Crafted from durable bronze, this low-profile transducer sits nearly flush to the hull (protruding less than 6.35mm), meaning less drag and no need for a bulky fairing block. Whether you are blasting offshore at speed or hovering over a reef, the B175HW delivers high-resolution "HD" sonar imagery that transforms your fishing experience.
Garmin AIRMAR B175HW Key Features
- Wide Beam Coverage: A constant 25° beam across the entire frequency range provides twice the coverage under your boat compared to standard high-frequency transducers.
- Superior Target Separation: Operating on the 150-250 kHz High-Wide CHIRP band, it excels at distinguishing individual fish targets even when they are tightly schooled or holding close to the bottom.
- 1kW of Pure Power: Step up to professional-grade performance with 1,000 watts of power, capable of reaching depths of up to 150m (500ft) with incredible clarity.
- Tilted Element™ Technology: Available in 0°, 12°, and 20° tilt versions to match your boat's deadrise perfectly. This ensures the beam is aimed straight at the seabed without the need for a fairing block.
- Built-in Temperature Sensor: Includes a fast-response water temperature sensor, helping you find those all-important thermal breaks where fish love to feed.
- Hull Friendly: The low-profile bronze housing is specifically designed for fiberglass or wood hulls and is safe for use on trailers or boat lifts.
- Plug-and-Play Compatibility: Comes with a Garmin 8-pin connector for seamless integration with your compatible Garmin sonar modules and chartplotters.

Garmin AIRMAR B175HW FAQs
What does the "HW" in B175HW actually mean?
The "HW" stands for High Wide. While a standard "High" frequency transducer typically has a narrow beam (around 6° to 10°), the B175HW features a constant 25° beam angle across the entire frequency band. This means you get significantly more coverage under the boat—roughly twice the area of a standard high-frequency transducer. It’s perfect for detecting fish in the upper water column and creates those beautiful, clear "fish arches" on your Garmin display.
Which "Tilt" version do I need for my boat?
This is the most critical question when ordering. The B175HW is a Tilted Element™ transducer, meaning the ceramic heart of the unit is angled inside the bronze housing to offset your hull's deadrise. This ensures the beam points straight down at the seabed.
| If your hull deadrise is... | You need the... |
| 0° to 7° | 0° Tilt Version |
| 8° to 15° | 12° Tilt Version |
| 16° to 24° | 20° Tilt Version |
Unsure of your deadrise? Give us a ring at the office or use a digital angle finder on the underside of your hull.
What depth range can I expect?
The B175HW is designed for high-resolution detail rather than extreme depth. It operates at 1 kW of power and is most effective down to 152m (500ft).
-
- Ideal for: Inshore fishing, pelagic species in the upper water column, and finding structure in shallower coastal waters.
- Not for: Deep-dropping for species in 300m+ of water (for that, we’d suggest looking at a Low-frequency CHIRP alternative).
Can I install this on a metal hull?
No. The B175HW features a bronze housing. Installing bronze directly into an aluminium or steel hull will cause galvanic corrosion, which can seriously damage your boat. For metal hulls, you must use the stainless steel equivalent (SS175HW). The B175HW is strictly for fiberglass or wood hulls.
Will it work with my existing Garmin Chartplotter?
The B175HW comes with a Garmin 8-pin connector as standard. It is "Plug-and-Play" with many Garmin units, including the echoMAP and older GPSMAP series. If you have a newer 12-pin "xsv" unit, you may require an 8-pin to 12-pin adapter cable. It also features Xducer ID® technology, which allows your Garmin unit to automatically recognize the transducer and configure the sonar settings for you.
Do I need a fairing block?
One of the best features of the B175 series is that it is a flush-mount, low-profile design. It sits nearly flush to the hull, meaning it creates minimal drag and won't affect your boat’s performance or fuel efficiency. No fairing block is required.
Does it provide water temperature?
Yes, it includes a fast-response water-temperature sensor alongside the depth data, giving you real-time readings to help you find those all-important thermal breaks where fish like to congregate.
