BF100 Honda Outboard Engine Key Features

  • VTEC® (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control): This technology, derived from Honda's automotive engines, optimizes engine performance across the entire RPM range by adjusting intake valve duration and lift. This provides a superior blend of power, torque, and fuel efficiency at all speeds.

  • BLAST™ (Boosted Low Speed Torque): This feature significantly improves acceleration and "hole shot" performance by advancing ignition timing to boost engine torque at low RPMs.

  • Lean Burn Control® (ECOmo): At cruising speeds, this system adjusts the air/fuel mixture to operate on a leaner mixture, which can improve fuel efficiency by up to 20% compared to some other engines in its class.

  • PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection): The microcomputer-controlled programmed fuel injection system ensures easy starting, instantaneous throttle response, and precise fuel delivery under all operating conditions.

  • High Output Alternator: The engine is equipped with a high-output 44 amp alternator (35 charging amps) to power a range of onboard accessories and keep batteries charged.

  • NMEA 2000® Compliant: This allows for seamless "plug and play" integration with third-party marine electronics like chart plotters and fish finders, without the need for expensive additional gateway interfaces.

  • 4-Front® Corrosion Protection System: A patented, multi-layered anti-corrosion paint process provides enhanced resistance against UV rays and saltwater, ensuring long-term durability.

  • Variable Speed Trolling Control: An optional feature (standard on tiller models) allows for precise trolling speed adjustment in 50 RPM increments, ideal for fishing and low-speed manoeuvres.

  • Engine Alert System: This safety feature monitors vital engine functions such as overheating, low oil pressure, water in fuel, and battery condition, alerting the operator to potential issues

Honda BF100 HP Outboard Engine FAQs

What are the key specs?
It is a 4-stroke, 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine with a SOHC 16-valve design. The full-throttle RPM range is 5,500 - 6,300 RPM. Dry weight for the long shaft (L-type) is approximately 166 kg (366 lbs). It uses Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) for easy starting and excellent fuel economy.

Does it have trolling control?
Yes, the optional (standard with tiller kit) trolling speed control allows you to adjust engine RPM in 50 RPM increments from 750 to 1000 RPM, ideal for anglers.

What type of fuel and oil does it use?
It runs on unleaded gasoline (86-91 octane, check specific model manual). Honda Marine 10W-30 FC-W engine oil is recommended.

How reliable are Honda outboards?
Honda engines are known for their exceptional durability and reliability. With proper maintenance, a Honda outboard can have a life expectancy of between 1,500 and 3,000 hours.

What kind of warranty is offered?
Honda offers an industry-leading, fully transferable, five-year, non-declining warranty that covers both parts and labour.

How often does it need servicing?
After the initial 20 hours of use for a new engine, you should follow the recommended service schedule of every 100 hours or annually. Adhering to this schedule is a crucial part of maintaining your warranty.

What should I do if I store the motor for a long time?
If the engine will not be used for 30 days or more, you should drain the fuel to prevent engine failures from aged fuel. You may also consider having it serviced by a dealer before storage.
