Not sure which lifejacket is right for you? The main choice usually comes down to automatic or manual inflation. An automatic lifejacket inflates as soon as it hits the water, giving instant buoyancy if you fall overboard. For most boaters and sailors, this is the safest and most popular option. Lifejackets are rated by buoyancy, measured in Newtons (N). The higher the number, the more lift the jacket provides in the water.
