    Yamaha 9.9 Outboard Engine FAQs

Is it suitable for saltwater use?
Yes, Yamaha designed this model with protective coatings and marine-specific materials for durability in both fresh and saltwater environments.

Does it come with a fuel tank?
Yes, it typically includes an external 3.1-gallon (approx. 11.7 litre) fuel tank and the necessary fuel line.

What kind of fuel and oil should I use?
Use regular unleaded fuel (minimum 87 octane) and Yamalube 10W-30 or Yamalube 10W-40 oil, depending on ambient temperature. Avoid E10 fuel blends.

How fast will my boat go with this motor?
Speed depends heavily on the boat's size and weight. A 9.9 HP motor can plane a 14-foot boat with one person and may reach speeds around 13-18 mph.

What is the difference between the standard F9.9 and the T9.9 High Thrust model
The T9.9 High Thrust model features a different gear ratio (2.92:1 vs 2.08:1) and a larger propeller to generate more thrust, making it ideal for heavier displacement boats or as a kicker motor, rather than speed-oriented applications.
