Yamaha F300 300HP Outboard Engine

Yamaha F300 300HP Outboard Engine are a heavyweight champion of the offshore V6 world.  Whether you are looking to repower a serious offshore fishing rig or seeking ultimate performance for a high-speed cruiser, the F300 delivers a level of refinement and "grunt" that is simply second to none. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about why this 4.2-litre powerhouse is the perfect choice for your next adventure.

The Yamaha F300 isn't just an engine; it’s a masterclass in marine engineering. By utilizing a massive 4.2-litre displacement with Yamaha’s revolutionary Plasma-Fused Sleeveless Cylinders, this engine is significantly lighter than the V8s it replaces while providing more torque and better cooling than its competitors.

At Morgan Marine, we recommend the F300 for those who demand "telepathic" handling and blistering acceleration. With the latest Steer-by-Wire technology and Helm Master® EX compatibility, docking and manoeuvring in tight marinas becomes effortless, leaving you to focus on the enjoyment of the water.

Yamaha F300 300HP Outboard Engine Key Features

  • Massive 4.2L Big-Bore V6 Power: Featuring plasma-fused sleeveless cylinders, this engine offers the largest displacement in its class. The result? Superior torque and acceleration without the bulk of a traditional steel-sleeved engine.
  • Digital Electric Steering (DES): Experience the cleanest bilge and the smoothest helm in the industry. DES eliminates the need for messy hydraulic pumps, hoses, and bleeding, providing a faster response and a clutter-free transom.
  • Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE): Revolutionise your docking. TERE keeps exhaust bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate when in reverse (under 2500rpm), giving the propeller "clean water" to bite into for incredible control when backing down.
  • TotalTilt™ Function: Trailering and tilting has never been easier. With a simple double-tap of the trim button, the engine performs a complete tilt up or down—no more holding the button down while you prepare the boat.
  • Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT): This advanced technology optimizes the fuel-air mix across the entire RPM range, giving you massive low-end torque for quick planes and impressive mid-range fuel economy.
  • Drive-By-Wire Precision: Digital Electronic Control (DEC) provides smooth, precise shifting and instantaneous throttle response, making multi-engine synchronisation a breeze.
  • Superior Reliability: Designed for the harsh offshore environment, the F300 features a new and improved lower unit, colour-matched to the sleek, XTO-inspired cowling that looks as good as it performs.

Yamaha F300 300HP Outboard Engine FAQs

What makes the "Offshore" V6 different from other 300hp engines?

The magic is in the 4.2-litre displacement. Yamaha uses "Plasma-Fused Sleeveless" technology, which replaces heavy steel cylinder liners with a micro-textured glass-hard surface. This makes the engine significantly lighter than its predecessors while allowing for larger cylinders (more "grunt" and displacement) in a more compact package. It’s built specifically to handle the demands of rougher coastal waters.

What type of fuel should I use for the F300?

Yamaha recommends a minimum of 89 Octane fuel for the F300 to achieve its full rated 300hp. While the engine’s sophisticated knock sensors allow it to run on standard 95 RON (UK regular) unleaded, for the absolute best performance and efficiency, we suggest using super-unleaded where possible. Always avoid fuel with more than 10% ethanol (E10 is the limit).

Can I get the F300 with Digital Electric Steering (DES)?

Yes! The latest version of the F300 (DEC models) now features Integrated Digital Electric Steering. This is a game-changer for UK boaters. It removes the need for hydraulic pumps, hoses, and fluid in your bilge, providing "telepathic" steering response and a much cleaner transom.

What is "TotalTilt™" and why do I need it?

TotalTilt is one of our favourite convenience features. A simple double-tap of the trim/tilt button will automatically tilt the engine all the way up for trailering or all the way down until it hits the trim rams. It saves you standing at the helm holding a button and is perfect when you’re busy securing the boat at the end of the day.

How does "Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust" (TERE) work?

When you’re in reverse (below 2,500rpm), the engine redirects exhaust bubbles away from the propeller blades and out above the anti-ventilation plate. This means the propeller is always biting into "clean" water rather than air bubbles, giving you significantly more grip and control when backing into a tight marina berth.

What are the maintenance intervals for the F300?

To keep your Yamaha warranty valid and the engine in peak condition, we recommend:

    • Initial 20-hour service: A vital "run-in" check of all systems and fluids.
    • Every 100 hours or Annually: Engine oil, gear oil, and filter changes.
    • Every 300 hours: A more comprehensive service including water pump impeller and spark plugs.

Is the F300 compatible with Yamaha’s Helm Master® EX?

Absolutely. The F300 is fully compatible with Helm Master EX, allowing for joystick manoeuvring, Autopilot functions, and "SetPoint" GPS positioning. Whether you have a single or twin-engine setup, we can rig the F300 to give you full joystick control.

Which shaft lengths are available?

The F300 comes in X (25 inch), U (30 inch), and E (35 inch) shaft lengths. At Morgan Marine, we can help you measure your transom to ensure you select the correct length for your specific hull to ensure optimum water flow to the prop.

Have a question we haven't covered?

Choosing the right rigging, propeller, and digital display can be complex. The team at Morgan Marine is here to help you tailor your Yamaha F300 package to your boat.
