Raymarine Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar

Raymarine Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar represent the next generation of marine radar, the Quantum 2 doesn't just show you what is out there; it uses advanced Doppler processing to tell you exactly where it’s going. Whether you are a weekend sailor or a serious motorboat cruiser, this solid-state radome is designed to take the stress out of navigation.

The Raymarine Quantum 2 Q24D is a compact, 18-inch solid-state radar that brings professional-grade collision avoidance technology to your helm. Unlike traditional radars that require a warm-up period, the Quantum 2 features "Instant On" technology, providing immediate situational awareness the moment you need it.

The standout feature is its Doppler Target Tracking. By measuring the shift in frequency of returning echoes, the Quantum 2 automatically colour-codes moving targets. Inbound threats are highlighted in red, while outbound vessels are shown in green. This allows you to distinguish dangerous moving traffic from stationary objects like buoys or land at a single glance.

Raymarine Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar Key Features

  • Doppler Collision Avoidance: Automatically identifies and colour-codes moving radar contacts. Red indicates approaching targets; green indicates targets moving away, significantly reducing the risk of collision in high-traffic areas.
  • CHIRP Pulse Compression: Experience superior target separation and identification. This technology ensures the radar can detect targets as close as 18 feet (6m) and as far as 24 nautical miles, offering incredible detail even in zero-visibility conditions.
  • Fully Automatic Target Acquisition: Equipped with advanced MARPA (Mini-Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) technology, the Quantum 2 can automatically track targets, calculating their course, speed, and closest point of approach (CPA) without the need for manual guard zones.
  • TrueTrails Target History: View a historical "wake" behind moving contacts, making it simple to interpret the direction and speed of other vessels at a glance.
  • Energy Efficient & Lightweight: Weighing up to 50% less than traditional magnetron radars, the Quantum 2 is easy to install. Its low power consumption (17W transmit / 7W standby) is ideal for yachts running on battery power during long passages.
  • Flexible Installation: Connect via Wi-Fi for a cable-free setup to your Raymarine MFD, or use a thin-wire Ethernet connection. It also shares the same bolt pattern as previous Raymarine scanners, making it a perfect drop-in upgrade.
  • Rugged Build: Rated to IPX6 waterproofing and designed to withstand winds up to 100 knots, this radome is built for the demanding British marine environment.

Specifications:

    • Range: 1/16 to 24 Nautical Miles
    • Weight: 5.6kg
    • Voltage: 12V or 24V DC
    • Dimensions: 541mm Diameter | 209.5mm Height
    • Compatibility: Optimized for Raymarine Axiom and Axiom Pro Multifunction Displays.

Dealer Note: If you are upgrading from an older analogue or first-generation digital radar, the Quantum 2 is a game-changer for safety. Please feel free to contact the Morgan Marine team if you need advice on compatibility with your existing Raymarine setup or cabling requirements.

Raymarine Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar FAQs

What makes the Quantum 2 "Doppler" different from a standard radar?

The "Doppler" technology is a real game-changer for safety. Unlike traditional radars that just show you "blips" on a screen, the Quantum 2 identifies moving targets and colour-codes them instantly.

    • Red targets are inbound (moving towards you).
    • Green targets are outbound (moving away). This allows you to assess potential collision risks at a single glance, which is invaluable when navigating busy shipping lanes or crowded harbours.

Does it pick up stationary hazards like buoys or rocks?

Yes, absolutely. While Doppler is brilliant for moving targets, the Quantum 2 also features a Safety Sector. This highlights stationary hazards (like buoys, jetties, or anchored boats) within a 200m range in front of your vessel, colouring them red to ensure you don’t miss them in low visibility.

How easy is it to install if I’m upgrading from an older Raymarine unit?

Raymarine has made this very straightforward. The Quantum 2 uses the same bolt pattern as many previous generations of Raymarine scanners. Because it is solid-state, it is also roughly 50% lighter than traditional magnetron radars (weighing just 5.6kg), making it much easier to handle when you're up the mast or on the coachroof.

Do I need to run a lot of new cabling through my boat?

Not necessarily! The Quantum 2 can connect to your Raymarine Multifunction Display (MFD) via built-in Wi-Fi, meaning you only need to provide power to the unit. If you prefer a wired connection, it uses a very thin RayNet Ethernet cable that is much easier to route through tight spaces than older, bulky radar looms.

What is the range of the Quantum 2?

The radar offers a maximum range of 24 nautical miles, which is plenty for coastal cruising and weather tracking. Crucially, it also excels at short-range detection, picking up targets as close as 18 feet (6 metres), which is perfect for navigating in thick fog or at night.

Will it drain my batteries?

This is one of the most energy-efficient units on the market. It consumes only 17W during transmission and just 7W on standby. For sailors or those keeping a close eye on their battery bank, this is a massive advantage compared to older, power-hungry magnetron systems.

Is there a "warm-up" time?

No. Because it uses solid-state technology rather than a traditional magnetron, there is no warm-up period required. It offers instant awareness, powering up and showing you targets in a matter of seconds.

What is "True Trails" and how does it help me?

The True Trails feature shows a historical "wake" or "vapour trail" behind every moving contact on your screen. This makes it much easier to see the direction of travel and the speed of other vessels without having to wait for multiple radar sweeps to figure it out yourself.

Is it compatible with my current chartplotter?

The Quantum 2 is designed to work seamlessly with Raymarine’s Axiom, eS, and gS Series multifunction displays. If you’re unsure about your specific setup, please do get in touch with us at Morgan Marine and we can verify compatibility for you.

Is it safe to be around?

Yes. One of the benefits of CHIRP Pulse Compression technology is that it uses very low-power radiated emissions. This makes it much safer to mount in locations where people might be nearby, such as on a small RIB or powerboat.
