Raymarine Black Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar

Raymarine Black Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar are now available in a stunning, high-gloss Black finish to complement the modern aesthetics of your vessel.

The Quantum 2 is the next generation of solid-state radar, designed to take the stress out of navigating busy waterways. By using advanced Doppler processing, it instantly identifies and colour-codes moving radar contacts to let you know at a glance whether they are a potential hazard or moving safely away.

Raymarine Black Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar Key Features

  • Doppler Collision Avoidance: The standout feature of the Q24D. It automatically highlights moving targets in red (approaching/danger) or green (moving away/safe), allowing you to identify threats amidst coastal clutter or heavy traffic instantly.
  • CHIRP Pulse Compression: Unlike traditional radars, CHIRP technology delivers superior target separation and high-resolution imaging at both long ranges and extremely short distances (as close as 18 feet), perfect for tight manoeuvres.
  • Black Edition Styling: This premium black radome offers the same market-leading performance as the original, but with a sleek, sophisticated look that matches modern hull colours and carbon-fibre accents.
  • MARPA Target Tracking: Stay ahead of the game with fully automatic MARPA (Mini-Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) target tracking, using the same advanced technology trusted by the United States Coast Guard.
  • TrueTrails Target History: Easily visualise the motion history of moving contacts with adjustable TrueTrails, making it simple to interpret complex traffic patterns at a glance.
  • Instant-On Awareness: No more waiting for a magnetron to warm up. The solid-state technology is ready to go in seconds, ensuring you have eyes on the water the moment you need them.
  • Energy Efficient & Lightweight: Weighing up to 50% less than traditional radars and consuming significantly less power (only 17W during transmission), it is the ideal choice for sailing yachts and smaller powerboats where battery management is key.
  • Simplified Installation: Designed for a hassle-free upgrade, the Quantum 2 uses the same bolt pattern as previous generations. It features integrated Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, making cable routing through narrow spaces much easier.

Morgan Marine Expert Tip: To get the most out of the Doppler features, we recommend pairing the Quantum 2 with Raymarine Axiom multifunction displays running the latest LightHouse operating system.

Raymarine Black Quantum Q24D Doppler 18" Radar FAQs

What makes the Quantum 2 "Doppler" different from standard radar?

The "Doppler" technology is a game-changer for safety. It specifically identifies moving targets and colour-codes them on your screen. Inbound targets (coming towards you) are shown in red, while outbound targets (moving away) are shown in green. This allows you to pick out moving traffic instantly from stationary objects like buoys, rocks, or land, significantly reducing your workload when navigating busy shipping lanes.

Does the Black version differ in performance from the White one?

Not at all. The high-gloss black finish is purely a styling choice to match modern boat aesthetics or blacked-out T-tops. Inside, it features the exact same industry-leading CHIRP Pulse Compression and Doppler technology as the standard white model.

How easy is it to install on my current boat?

Raymarine has made the upgrade path very simple. The Quantum 2 uses the same bolt pattern as previous generations of Raymarine scanners. If you are replacing an older unit, you likely won't need to drill new holes. Additionally, the cables are much thinner than old analogue ones, making them far easier to pull through narrow masts or cable runs.

Can I use the Quantum 2 wirelessly?

Yes. The Quantum 2 features integrated Wi-Fi. You can connect it directly to your Raymarine Multi-Function Display (MFD) without a data cable, needing only a power connection. This is a brilliant solution for sailing yachts where running data cables down the mast is difficult. (Note: For the most robust connection in all conditions, we generally recommend the wired Ethernet option if possible).

Is my current Raymarine display compatible?

The Quantum 2 is designed to work with the Axiom family (Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom XL, and Axiom 2 Pro/RVM) running LightHouse 3 or 4 software. It is also compatible with older eS and gS Series displays.

Tip: While it can connect to some older models, the Doppler colour-coding features require the processing power of the Axiom range to work at their best. If you're unsure, just give us a call at Morgan Marine with your model number!

Do I need a heading sensor for the Doppler features to work?

A heading sensor (like the Raymarine EV-1) is not strictly required for the radar to function, but we highly recommend one. Having a heading sensor allows the radar to perform MARPA (Manual Over-the-Board) target tracking and ensures the radar overlay remains perfectly aligned on your chartplotter even when the boat is stationary or moving slowly in a tide.

How good is it at detecting close-range objects?

Because it uses CHIRP Pulse Compression, the Quantum 2 is exceptional at short range. It can detect targets as close as 18 feet (6 metres), which is invaluable for navigating narrow harbour entrances or mooring in thick fog.

Will it drain my batteries?

No, this is one of the most energy-efficient units on the market. It is a solid-state radar, meaning it uses roughly 50% less power than traditional magnetron radars (drawing only 17W during transmission and 7W on standby). This makes it the perfect choice for sailors or RIB owners who need to be mindful of their battery bank.

Is it safe to be around?

Yes. Unlike older high-power radars, the Quantum 2 emits very low levels of radiation. This gives you more flexibility on where you mount it, as it is safe to install almost anywhere on board without worrying about the health of your crew or passengers.

What’s included in the box?

When you purchase the Q24D from us, you’ll receive the 18" Black Radome, mounting bolts, and documentation. Depending on the specific bundle you choose, we also offer it with 10m or 15m combined power/data cables.
