Garmin Reactor 40 Kicker Autopilot is a high-performance, solid-state 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) designed to provide superior heading hold and course stability. Even in challenging conditions—be it wind, waves, or heavy current—this system keeps you exactly where you need to be.
This package includes the stunning GHC 50 Autopilot Instrument. With its bright, edge-to-edge 5" touchscreen display, the GHC 50 makes navigation intuitive and sleek. It integrates seamlessly with your existing Garmin marine electronics via the NMEA 2000® network, allowing you to share data and settings across your entire helm.
To give you total freedom, the system also comes with a floating handheld remote control. This allows you to adjust your heading or fine-tune your throttle settings from anywhere on the boat—perfect for when you're at the stern netting a fish or prepping gear.

Garmin Reactor 40 Kicker Autopilot FAQs
What exactly is a ‘Kicker’ autopilot?
This specific Reactor 40 system is designed tailored for boats with small petrol outboard motors—often called "kickers"—up to 25 horsepower. It’s the perfect solution for anglers who want to maintain a steady course while trolling, or for sailors needing assistance when motoring out of the marina.
What is included in this bundle?
When you purchase this pack from us, you get the complete "ready-to-go" setup. It includes the Reactor 40 CCU (Course Computer Unit), the ECU (Electronic Control Unit), steering and throttle actuators, a floating handheld remote, and the premium GHC 50 dedicated touchscreen display. We also include all necessary NMEA 2000 cables and connectors to get your system networked.
What are the benefits of the GHC 50 instrument over older models?
The GHC 50 is a significant upgrade. It features a bright, 5-inch high-resolution WVGA touchscreen that looks fantastic at the helm. It’s designed to be edge-to-edge glass, matching the sleek look of modern Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters. Not only does it make engagement easy, but it also shares data and settings seamlessly across your Garmin Marine Network via Wi-Fi or NMEA 2000.
Will it hold a course in rough British coastal waters?
Absolutely. The Reactor 40 uses a solid-state 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System). This means the autopilot "feels" the water; it reacts to wind, waves, and heavy currents to keep you on your heading, even when the boat is pitching and rolling.
How do I control the throttle while fishing?
This is one of our favourite features. The system includes a convenient, floating handheld remote with a sunlight-readable display. You can fine-tune your throttle settings or drop to idle speeds instantly at the touch of a button—perfect for when you’re netting a fish or approaching a mooring and can't get to the helm.
Can I control the autopilot from my Garmin Chartplotter?
Yes, you can. If you have a compatible Garmin chartplotter, you can enjoy full control of the autopilot from the MFD (Multi-Function Display) anywhere on the boat. You can even use select Garmin quatix® marine smartwatches for basic steering and mode control.
Is it difficult to install and calibrate?
While all autopilots require commissioning, the Reactor 40 series is known for being one of the quickest and easiest to calibrate. Because of the 9-axis AHRS, the CCU can be mounted almost anywhere and in any orientation, which simplifies the installation process significantly.
Is the system waterproof?
Yes, the components—including the GHC 50, the actuators, and the ECU—are all rated to IPX7 standards. This means they are designed to withstand incidental exposure to water of up to 1 metre for up to 30 minutes. The handheld remote is also designed to float, just in case it takes an accidental dip!
